After 17 years of training, 11 years as a doctor and 7 years as a medical registrar, today I accepted a substantive post as a Consultant in Acute and General Internal Medicine at @FrimleyHealth. One chapter ends. Another begins. So excited for what’s next. 💪

@kurtstat @ProfDerekBell @nickscr1 My immediate take is >72 hour is the 12 hour ED equivalence but would love to know the >48 hour locally.

@ProfDerekBell @nickscr1 @WhebleMJ There seems to be a consensus that >12-hour stays are an indicator of 'extreme dysfunction' in the ED. Wondered if there was an equivalent length of stay cut-off point that represents AMU dysfunction. (But it may be more complicated than that!)

@kurtstat @nickscr1 @ProfDerekBell So true. It’s the data I would love to have. How long specialty patients remain on AMU and break down by specialty for that.

@nickscr1 @ProfDerekBell @WhebleMJ I'm finding that the specialties downstream from AMU often don't get to see their numbers (admissions, average length of stay, occupancy). So - regardless of what they might or might not be able to change - even their status quo is 'invisible' to them.

Interested to hear thoughts from other CSs/ESs, in particular for foundation or core training, but my take is that it’s not only your responsibility to guide the resident dr to pass their ARCP but also support their career planning full stop? Passing ARCPs ≠ getting a HST job.
