Yes, it's true! Newton Heath were deep in debt and saved from bankruptcy in early 1902 by investors led by J.H. Davies. As a fresh start, they officially became Manchester United FC on 24 April 1902, switching from green-and-gold to red-and-white colours. They played their last game as Newton Heath on 26 April.
