Very insightful & nuanced review.
It’s true that Japan can be very strict about rules & procedures. As I mentioned in my post two posts ago, if there were a WAFFLE HOUSE in Japan, they probably would never have sold me their actual physical menu as a souvenir due to store policy, even if I asked.
The game market is unique in some ways as well, but when it comes to PC gaming, Western games are actually quite widespread and sell very well here.
As for living in Japan, I do think it can suit some people more than others. It’s true that work tends to occupy a relatively large portion of people’s lifestyles here, and more importantly — although this exists in every country to some extent (this is an important premise, and I’ll say it again: this exists in every country) — Japan comparatively tends to reward “personal relationships and internal politics” over pure competence when it comes to promotions.
In other words, there’s definitely a “the nail that sticks out gets hammered down” culture, and I think a lot of people struggle with that.
(And by the way, situations where someone who 99 out of 100 people would consider completely incompetent — someone basically unknown in the industry except for endless stories about their incompetence — somehow gets promoted into an absurdly high executive position, leaving entire organizations shocked and dumbfounded… those situations genuinely exist around us. The kind of unbelievably bad personnel placement that feels like it belongs in a movie scene.)

After spending over 330 hours in JAPAN, my full review after being in Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto: - Best food I ever eaten, the meat is insane and it's not even unhealthy. I ate so much food and didn't get bloated - Amazing snacks, that are cheap and everywhere. Can be anything you want, like sandwiches or sweets with no sugar - Metro and train station is cheap and very good once you get a thing of it, never use uber or taxi (legit waste of money) - People are awesome and kind but please if you visit, RESPECT THEIR CULTURE! - I usually feel like going home, but this time I felt like the time there was not enough lmao - Gaming culture is huge, also they really don't care that much about the western games = if you want to be big in Japan make games that appeal to the Japanese person - Gaming, collector and awesome random stores everywhere - People are crazy addicted to Casinos - X is huge there, never seen so many ppl use this app as much as there - Now, when talking to people... LIVING there seems not so good, since the work for your company is everything. Like you get judged a lot, based on how much you stay at work and not necessary how much you do. - This one was sad, a lot of people wear masks to hide who they are. I had no idea about this - Japanese people really don't like if you don't follow the rules, they have a society that works very good so if you visit Japan (or any other place). Try to speak their language, they will appreciate it. Don't talk loud on trains, throw trash etc. Respect is huge key factor - Gym culture is not that good, so many rules and no tattoos at all. Gyms are one thing that was actually more expensive there than where I live. You can't even make noises in hardcore gyms for some reason I can keep in going but Japan imo is the best place to visit in the world, but I would not want to live there because I am not a company loyal for life type of person (I like more of a balanced life). But for visit it's a 10/10 for sure IMO

I think I found a way to explain this to casual players gamers.
GTAV = Street Fighter 6 (The product is Really well done)
Everything else: the game may lack in either package, content, but they do things exceptional well in the most important department... gameplay (but you have to just like the gameplay)
at the end of the day stop worrying about numbers and play the game with the best gameplay you like.

@rubynesoberi I‘ve also personally felt some of that for pokemon specifically. The rise of the competitive nuzlocke has been a blight for how people engage with pokemon games. And I am grateful VGC will never be a high priority for Game Freak,

the more discussion i see on competitive pokemon the more its clear to me that the average casual fan holds a deep contempt for competitive gaming but still wants to engage with it for some reason. which is something i already knew but its weird to see it in action
