@rodimusprime For decades any movie that was ahead of its time or too risky would at best win one of Screenplay Awards. People get so focused on Best Picture now, when that never was the prize for the best movie and director was tied to it. Shit Redford over Martin still is funny.

A lot of time is spent constructing over-arching narratives that ignore how the actual voting system of these award academies work. They also leave out the changes that were made to the voting bodies after they added younger more diverse voters to the academies.

As a movie lover, I can't do social media discussions during awards season. It just feels like everyone turns into lawyers making cases for and against movies that have very little to do with the actual enjoyment of said films. I do like discussing movies on our podcast tho.

In 1997, I was a precocious 12yo “movie lover” who loved “Fargo.” The night of the academy awards, I choked back bitter tears when it lost to “The English Patient.” How could the superior film have lost! Many of you are grownups, and still have this personality. Grow up.
