Especially in healthcare, I don’t know how health systems make meaningful progress without a framework like this - we have to navigate in multiple business models simultaneously.

@annsomerswh I digest better with written materials, but really solidify the learning by talking through it. So, a blended approach would be helpful. Maybe not a seminar, but small group discussion.

I study #HealthCare #disruptors (a lot). The interest started w/ #primarycare & on demand care orgs.
As disruption moved up market - as it does - the examples expanded & so did the implications for incumbents.

@annsomerswh Gotta make sure the metrics of success for the funding source and the operations are aligned. Otherwise there will be conflict - and the funding source priorities typically win out.

Conclusion (con't): They are simpler to use, target nonconsumers, and are "not as good" as lifestyle change due to the side effects they can cause.
I hope lifestyle change outcompetes statins, but the theory suggests statins may win.

Just as smart phones are disruptive relative to some things, sustaining to others, prescription drugs can be both. Depends on drug, cause of the condition, existing alternatives, long term impact, etc

For example, do statins target non-consumers of healthy diets? Is it easier/more convenient to take a statin than change what you eat? Is the statin "not as good" as changing lifestyle in reducing cholesterol? etc.

@annsomerswh And next we’ll see more procedural work being done - on a primary care cost structure rather than a tertiary/quaternary cost structure. Where have I seen this ‘movie’ before? It’s the classic steel example in a different industry.

Just as theory would predict, #disruptors to traditional primary care are moving up market to integrate specialty care into their models.
Easier for patients (fewer referrals/dr's to manage) and more profitable for models that are paid on a PMPM basis.
