OH DEAR Rachel Reeves heckled by white van man as she visits a petrol station. “Get Starmer out! Get Labour out! You’re ruining the country! Are you going to arrest me for having an England flag? Get Farage in!” She lectures the guy about “manners”

@WillPinner @rich_rdctd I think it's related to location - I'm in north wales so harder to keep infra working here. There's probs a load of hidden costs in there too. I learned the other day we're paying for ppl who don't pay their bills too, apparently it's quite easy to give a fake name.

Clock Tower and old bank more important to Council Planner than 800 new homes. “harm to the relevant designated heritage assets important to the area,” he concluded, noting that nearby buildings include a listed clock tower and a former HSBC bank.” Idiotic bureaucracy.

@rich_rdctd @saminbelize Yeah I think you’ll some rises, but on both peak and off peak / so the arb remains intact. I’ve looked at it but tbh I have Edf 5p/24p and just let 800w pis do the base load in the day down south. Avg unit price about 10p/kwh (ev inc). Small outlay but effective & Free on Sunday

@WillPinner @saminbelize Agreed. This is best case scenario. I would expect it to average out over time as more people wise up and add storage capacity. But even then, I think that's a decade away.

@saminbelize @rich_rdctd These investments are the buyers acceptance that the government will never deliver lower energy prices from green energy. I think your roi is safeish but I’d probably balance it with a pinch of salt that those off peak rates remain as more installs increase off peak demand.

@rich_rdctd I don't blame you - I've got solar+battery too! It's just crazy we have to go to such lengths and all it does it take you back to the (still expensive!) prices of approx 2018! At least we'll have some backup when the brown outs start I guess...

inflation fell to 2.8% today. electricity, the biggest driver, fell 8.4%. ofgem cap fell £117 in april. ons says £150 of that came from moving green levies off bills and onto general taxation. so they took £117 off the bill and put £150 on your taxes.

@meadwaj Price caps signal market failure. They simply delay the inevitable pain by accruing price increases or alternatively result in supplier failure. To propose that “fuss” about price caps on food will result in a different outcome is simple denial.

@WillPinner No, it’s a widely reported (and usually pretty accurate) forecast. What’s your point?

You’ll be hearing a lot of silly fuss about food price caps now. But note that the fall in inflation today is very largely about the fall in the price of household energy - which is a capped, government regulated price…

I've long been an advocate of HS2. But 2043 is not serious. Construction started in 2020. A quarter of a century to build 140miles of track is ludicrous. It's frankly embarrassing, and at this point inexcusable.
