ok so my theory that ashkenazi judaism was an unintentional eugenics program for a trait cluster that overlaps heavily with autism and adhd but isn't exactly either clinically: talmudic scholarship is different from normal scholarship. it's recursive pattern extraction across massive corpora, exception-finding, holding contradictory interpretations in working memory while searching for reconciliation, basically what we'd now call hypersystemizing. gematria (assigning numerical values to letters and finding "meaningful" correspondences) is literally recreational combinatorics with religious characteristics and for ~40 generations (~800-1600 CE), the marriage market explicitly rewarded this. the shidduch system matched talmudic prodigies with wealthy families' daughters. functionally, it's assortative mating for systematizing ability with direct reproductive consequences. meanwhile occupational restrictions pushed ashkenazi jews into finance, trade, medicine, which are all high cognitive load niches where the same traits would be advantageous the cognitive profile this produced is wild and lopsided. verbal IQ highest of any group, mathematical also highest of any group, but spatial ability decidedly not. that's a specific phenotype being selected hard the result: 0.2% of world population, 22% of all nobel laureates (110x base rate), ~30% of fields medals, 41% of economics nobels but here's where it gets interesting. i don't think this selected for "intelligence" as a clean construct. i think it selected for a trait cluster that overlaps heavily with what we now diagnose as autism and adhd, a cluster including intense pattern recognition, ability to hyperfocus on abstract domains, and reduced sensitivity to social consensus when it conflicts with logical consistency the genetics support this. the TBCB gene mutation linked to autism has a carrier frequency of 1:80 in ashkenazi jews vs 5:100,000 in the general population. in israeli studies, jewish children's ASD referral rates are 6x higher than bedouin-arab rates, and high-functioning autism specifically is dramatically more prevalent (29.6% vs 2.6%) baron-cohen's hyper-systemizing theory of autism finds that parents who score high on systematizing are more likely to produce autistic children, which is literally what the shidduch system was optimizing for across a millennium of closed gene flow it's probably not selecting for autism or adhd as clinical entities. it's more that the underlying trait distribution got shifted. the same alleles that in certain combinations produce clinical autism/adhd, in other combinations produce the kid who argues with the rabbi for six hours about a single line of talmud and then grows up to win a fields medal personally, i come from a lineage of rabbis dating back to 1400s lithuania so i'm basically a heritage breed at this point lmao

Among the para-religious belief of leftist intellectuals an unshakeable one is the conviction that Fascism was a revelation of the deepest nature of the "right" whereas Leninism (and then Stalinism) was an unfortunate "authoritarian" deviation in the history of the "left."

The entire Book of Revelation is a giant chiasm. 🤯 A chiasm is a literary device where ideas unfold in order (A B C) and then repeat in reverse (C B A), forming an X shaped symmetry that aids memory and draws attention to the central point (C). The Bible is amazing.

Classical Liberals don’t have a strong answer to the clear game theoretic advantage of ethnic collectivist bloc action, because once enough bloc players exist to set the incentives, neutrality becomes unilateral disarmament and everyone must mobilize or lose. That is the whole problem in one line and that is what we're seeing now. This is not a smooth trend, and it has a tipping point. As long as an individualist public is the clear majority, liberal rules can function as the operating system. Rights, neutrality, and constraint remain binding in practice, because most players are still playing the same game. Then the center of gravity shifts. Large scale demographic change, plus the import of more collectivist coordination norms, increases the share of the electorate that treats politics as group bargaining. Dense networks, internal discipline, and social enforcement make bloc behavior easy and reliable. Collective action is already solved. At some threshold, the unit of politics flips. The individualist majority thins into a plurality, then a minority. Blocs become numerous enough that neutrality becomes unilateral disarmament. If you keep acting like atomized individuals while others act like coordinated teams, you lose leverage, access, and eventually protection in practice. So the system selects for bloc formation. Even the remaining individualists get forced into counter bloc behavior just to stay competitive. Sports makes the whole game-theoretic point simple and obvious. A coordinated team beats better athletes who cannot play together. This is just a plain fact. Once the league rewards set plays and disciplined teamwork, anyone insisting on pickup ball gets crushed. Not because the other team is magical. Because coordination multiplies power. This is game-theoretic advantage. You see it elsewhere, like in the military. This is a simple point and it is super common. Past the tipping point, the liberal order hollows out. The state starts treating blocs as the basic unit. Access, carve outs, enforcement priorities, and legitimacy flow to the organized. Constraints become partisan terrain. Courts become weapons. Administration becomes spoils. Rights become conditional. You can keep the founding texts and the slogans. But the operating system changes underneath. Liberalism survives only if the winners stay bound by the rules when the rules block what they want. Bloc competition trains winners to treat the creed as civic poetry and treat group advantage as reality.

@Ne_pas_couvrir And once stuck in a back-and-forth of this cresting the previous (and adverse), how do we stop the political tailspin?

matthew 18:3 "truly i tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." the wiser the sage, the more child-like is his face. the more advanced his spirit, the simpler is his soul. the deeper his understanding, the lighter are his undertakings. think of the wisest sage you ever saw; i guarantee “rational grown-ups” see him as backward, silly, stupid, unrefined, “regressed.” don’t blame them. they might have grown up yes, but they never grew “down.” and thus it’s they who truly are “stunted.” and that’s a tragedy. if you are not staring at all phenomena around you with endless curiosity and mind-bending awe as you age, you are not playing this game right.

The latest tranche of Cormac McCarthy papers acquired by the Wittliff contains the following note in Cormac’s hand: “The moral clarity of the English speaking people has been a thousand year perfecting. It is a pointless task to imagine such a strength taking markedly less time than this in some other culture. The notion that we are all as one is nonsense.”

I know a lot of young people feel disaffected right now, especially young men. Let me tell you a little story. At a local small town meeting recently, an elected representative stumbled over her words, couldn’t really form her question, eventually asked something she should have known, and was just generally unimpressive. People were rolling their eyes and shaking their heads. Embarrassing scene. I heard someone scoff from the back row, “How did SHE get elected?!” Well, she ran unopposed. No scandal, scheme, or money. This is a board position that actually commands a bit of power and it was just wide open. The thing I want all young people—especially young men who feel like they have no place in the world—to remember is, the levers of power and important posts have in many places been totally abandoned. The bar is very low. The gutter is littered with crowns. Pick one up.

in 2022 i did DMT for the first time. i was lying outside under a tree. i have always been non-religious, and was raised that way. still, i incredibly distinctly perceived Jesus Christ appear to me, surrounded by a warm glow like that of dawn, and he told me i was loved, wholly and unconditionally. i could feel the divine love and peace throughout my whole being in a totally undeniable way. actually i could access it for months later, there was just this little mental movement i could do whenever i wanted to see some little part of Jesus Christ and remember His love. even as soon as later that day i was fully aware this experience happened because i did the fucking drug that makes u have religious experiences lmao. it's had zero impact whatsoever on my beliefs about the world, except to me somewhat more certain in them, knowing that "religious experiences" are clearly an inducible brainstate

I think it’s very funny that people take all these non-materialist insights away from psychedelics, which to me are the purest demonstration of materialism available. It’s like I say to you, “everything you think you perceive is just the result of the way your brain interprets a particular set of inputs. Check it out, I can just give you a drug and then you’ll perceive everything differently.” And then when people do that, even smart people, they no-joke, genuinely act like something else happened. It’s like even if you tell them directly, “this drug is going to do a trick where it makes your brain think that you’ve had a spiritual experience, isn’t that cool?” And then they look you right in the face and say, “no, I had a real spiritual experience.” This tells you a lot about how human beings experience and interpret reality.
