Just look at life on earth as an example. Of all of the creatures in the Animal Kingdom, select one at random and describe its features. Would they be human like? No. The probability is incredibly low that some random species from some planet light years away would look very similar to us. But wait… They’re intelligent. Dolphins are intelligent. Octopus are intelligent. Ravens are intelligent. None of them look like humans. You are being duped.

@ITalkOfChrist People will people. There’s not much we can do about that. Those that have charity in their heart will overlook imperfections and love the man. Those who do not will have the opportunity to overcome pride and judgement through repentance or not. Lehi put it best in 2 Nephi 2:5.

I'm in Utah for the week. I ate lunch today with some Church members today. Two of them brought up things I've shared here. Made me a little nervous. I ate alone in a restaurant for dinner. A stranger recognized me, approached my table, and talked to me about my ward's awesome EQ meeting I shared a few days ago. I'd been in Utah all of 8 hours, and people didn't know were on Twitter independently talked to me about 3 of my posts. That's only happened once in my life before. Today it happened 3 times. This is a weird dynamic for me. I've got mixed feelings. First observation: I hear y'all complain a lot but Utah seems cool! People talking about the Gospel in casual conversation-- how awesome is that! There's a different light and spirit here, and it's palpable. Second: my non-anonymity is blessing my life. I've loved meeting real people on this app, either during my yearly Utah trips or when y'all visit Nashville. Those connections wouldn't come as frequently is I was still a Kronk shoulder angel avatar. Third: my non-anonymity isn't something to trifle with. I went non-anonymous years ago because Elder @CookQuentinL asked me to and because I found the quality and tone of my posts were more Christlike when I didn't hide behind anonymity. However I still find myself posting things without thinking and asking myself if I'd really get engaged in a conversation or say things a certain way in person. I'm still too "online." I can happily stand by 99% of my posts, but each time this has happened, I immediately get nervous about that 1% that touched a third rail or didn't strike the right tone. Today reminded me there are real people I like and care about who see what I say here. They deserve for me to be more thoughtful with what I do publicly with my name. But really, the Lord deserves for me to be more thoughtful about what I do with His name. That doesn't mean I have to be milquetoast like an official Church account, but it does deserve more restraint than I've been showing recently. Look at that, I'm being prompted to be a pacemaker again and it's not even General Conference time! 🤣 PS: @josephgale is the stranger who found me at the restaurant. Really cool guy, it was awesome to meet him. Give him a follow!

But I also know this: During my bout with depression I didn’t “feel [heaven] close around me as I pray[ed].” When I prayed, I felt nothing. No closeness. No comfort. Just silence. If you’re in that place, it can be terrifying. You start to wonder if something is wrong with you. If you’re doing something wrong. If you have no worth or are unworthy. If God has stepped away. But that’s not what’s happening. Sometimes the struggle isn’t spiritual; it’s neurological. That’s because your mind, which includes your imperfect brain, can make you feel numb or oblivious to spiritual promptings from above. Your mind can become so heavy, so exhausted, that you can’t register light the way you normally would. Even spiritual light. That doesn’t mean heaven is far away. It means you’re fighting something real. And in that fight, the adversary is quick to step in - whispering lies about your worth, your standing, and your future. Don’t believe him. Even if you can’t feel it right now, please know this: - You are loved - perfectly and completely - by your Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. That love doesn’t turn on and off based on what you feel. It is constant. So if all you can do is keep going, then just keep going. - Continue to pray even if you don’t want to or feel like it works. Little by little, you will be blessed even if you don’t see it. - Talk to someone, including trusted family and friends. - Seek help from certified professionals. Participate in counseling or other therapy. Take prescribed medications if needed. - Take care of your body, even in small ways. Strive to eat more healthy, get enough rest, exercise, and get outside every day. And if everything in you feels like letting go: HOLD ON! Please stay. Your life matters more than you can see right now. Your family needs you. Your friends need you. Those you have yet to meet need you. This season you’re in? It’s not the end of your story.
