@BipolarRecorder I think this is intentional. Community threatens, or at least throws sand in, the machine

Since mid-2024 I've also noticed the new algorithms have decimated many of the various Twitter niche/special interest communities. The mental health crowd on here has gotten way smaller unfortunately.
skooks@skooookum
The new twitter algorithm seems to have destroyed the canopy that provided shade for niche/tight knit communities to grow. I no longer see tweets from my more clever or esoteric mutuals because their humor or insight is too subtle to be grok'd. Bangers or nothing. Very sad.

@ATXScott Ah, the “eliminate almost every letter until the only ones left are the right ones” strategy!

We are a week away from the release of The Lies We Keep! If you could take a moment to share this post to spread awareness, I would greatly appreciate it.

@mykola I think recent changes have been designed specifically to prevent these relationships. Like discouraging hashtags, which is how I used to keep track of my peeps. A modest technique in your direction. Relationships are dangerous to the new world order
English

The case for PVP social media:
So, social media needs a design pass. They need to give us ways to annotate relationships. Follow/block is boring and flat. Who’s on my crew? What crews am I on? Who am I grateful to? Who have I learned from? Whose teachings do I follow?
And also: Who are my ops? Who is like, yeah he’s one of ours but *sigh*. Who am I beefing with, and under what terms? Who are my rivals? Do I have a nemesis?
By creating tools that where the affordances are all “good vibes only” and the *only* conflict primitive is blocking with no context, that’s *wild* to do to a human population over decades.
When I block someone, let me say *why* and let me review blocks regularly. Same for follows tbh!
Idk, maybe pvp social media is the opposite extreme but like, what we have now seems to break a lot of people over time. It’s not human.

@AbeFroman You’re right. But don’t compare US tipping practice to Europe. In the US we are expected to pay part of the server’s wages. In Europe servers are paid a living wage by the restaurant; the tip is above and beyond.
English

A 40% suggested tip is insane—and that’s coming from a good tipper.
Anything over 20-25% is exceptional, especially when compared to Europeans who only tip 5-10%, if at all.

Do you tip like this?

@klhicks912 Amazing how impressed these people are by my book that won’t be published for another four months!
