Quantum computing access today costs millions. A D-Wave Advantage2 lease runs six figures annually before you write a single line of solver code. IBM's queue is managed through a research partnership waitlist. Most teams working on quantum-resistant infrastructure have never touched actual quantum hardware. @QuipNetwork's testnet lets anyone submit optimization jobs to real quantum processors without a PhD or an enterprise contract. CPU and GPU node operators verify results. The architecture is open-source and auditable. Colton Dillon put it plainly on Product Hunt: quantum advantage should be a verifiable result, not a marketing claim. That framing is more useful than it sounds. The space is crowded with projects that describe quantum resistance in press releases and benchmark nothing publicly. 13,000 testnet participants and six research team submissions is a different kind of signal than a whitepaper citing theoretical security properties. I still want to see what mainnet throughput actually looks like under load. Q2 is the target and that window is narrow. The harder question is whether democratizing quantum compute access changes anything before Q-Day arrives. Faster iteration on solvers and resistance schemes might. Or it might produce a lot of benchmarks that do not translate into deployed security at scale. Both outcomes are possible and I do not think anyone running a node right now knows which one is more likely.
