Göbekli Tepe predates Stonehenge by around 6,000 years and is considered by many to be the world's first temple. The site is famous for its massive T-shaped stone pillars, which are arranged in a series of circles or ovals. Each pillar is up to 20 feet tall and weighs up to 10 tons. The pillars feature a variety of carved reliefs, including animals and abstract symbols. The depictions are sophisticated and have been interpreted as possible evidence of early forms of pictographic writing. Archaeologists have uncovered numerous statues and figurines at Göbekli Tepe, some of which are abstract or depict animals, and others that appear to be human figures.
