@SnazzyLabs @SonnyDickson Looks like a tread I ditched a few years ago. I have the repair kit they sent me that I never used because I discovered there was just a disconnected wire. I'll have to find it now!

Oh good idea, combine the category/sub-category fields, create a bunch of confusion, and invalidate all the GitHub bots/docs in the world.

Already off to a bad start. The new Feedback Hub opens off-center, at ~75% width of work area, and doesn't persist window placement. <facepalm>

Since @tomwarren screenshotted my LinkedIn post and some folks are conspiracy theorying it (wtf). Posting here my farewell love letter to Microsoft. Today was my last day on campus, and after spending 13 years in this place, choosing to leave this company and these amazing people was the hardest decision of my life🥹❤️. And at the same time, I always said I want to go on many adventures in my life… moving from Australia to Canada, to Italy, to SF, to London… then Redmond with Microsoft. Now on to a new journey— After more than a decade at Microsoft, I’ve decided to step into the next phase of my career, which will take me on a new adventure beyond Microsoft. Reflecting back, I still remember stepping through the doors at 30 Great Pulteney Street on March 27, 2013, into a newly formed Xbox game studio in London. I felt at once excitement, trepidation, and optimism. As I step into this next chapter, I find many of those same emotions returning as I look ahead. Thank you to everyone who has been part of my journey at Microsoft. To the many colleagues, collaborators, and supporters who opened your office doors, and who spent time sharing your thoughts and encouragement - I am deeply grateful. At Microsoft, I felt I had truly found my people: a place where I could belong. I hope I carry forward some small piece of the culture we built together: one of curiosity, acceptance, and inclusion. Thank you all for walking this journey with me, from my early days in Xbox Game Studios, to Microsoft Research, to serving as Gaming Chief of Staff, and more recently working together on this AI revolution. I’ve loved the adventure. My next step will be at Netflix, where I’ll be joining the team to help empower their journey in gaming. I’ll also continue pursuing my passion for advancing AI for social impact through my nonprofit, Thriven Foundation (lnkd.in/gyqmp3UE) Cheers to all of you and to the journeys ahead!

@OffbrandDrPhil @edandersen Hm don't get too excited. DWM still has that bug where resizing system xaml windows may cause transparent holes. They added a workaround that "fills" that hole when detected.

Microsoft: Faster responsiveness in core Windows experiences like the Start menu, by moving more experiences to WinUI3 [...] Hot take: Good luck with MSIDC.

@dxzdxz1 @WithinRafael The point is I should not have to write such a blog post in the first place. The Bing search in the start menu is a prime example of a "feature" that nobody asked for, yet degrades or sometimes *breaks* critical features that everyone needs. The start menu should start apps fast

@marcusash Would like to also hear how you intend to facilitate more technical discussion (e.g., Windows API feedback, bugs). Feedback Hub right now doesn't do that. Some good examples: github.com/riverar/commun…

@marcusash Would also love to see more teams gather more diagnostic data. Less than 50% of the feedback areas gather anything more than generic system information. Which leads me to strongly believe there's no human on the other end. (cont)

There’s a lot of work underway that Pavan shared earlier today. Something that I know has been at the top of a lot of people’s minds is the feeling that feedback goes into a void, without real people to review and see it on the other side. To help with that, I’ll be taking on an expanded role as the exec sponsor of the Windows Insider Program to listen, engage, and help shape what’s ahead with the Windows community. Over the coming weeks, we’ll also introduce you to members of the product teams that will help you get answers on the topics you care about most. I’d love to hear from you. What would you like to see more of from us as we get started?
Pavan Davuluri@pavandavuluri

The team and I have spent the past several months analyzing feedback from the community. What came through was the voice of people who care deeply about Windows and want it to be better. Read this blog post to learn more about what we're doing in response as we look to raise the bar on Windows 11 quality. Please keep the feedback coming, to help us shape the future of Windows together. blogs.windows.com/windows-inside…

@edandersen I hear that a lot in the form of "so why did we undock all this again?"

@WithinRafael They should bring it back to WinUI 2.x instead. .NET Native binary speeds were incredible and this is a core OS component, “isolating” it from the OS is pointless

@thesimmerdan @MattBDev Agreed. There's a fascinating disconnect between US and India dev in play. Their swdev culture is deeply shaped by chalta hai, basically a tolerance for "good enough" that runs throughout. Some books on my TODO list that dig into this (e.g., Chalta Hai India [...] Alpesh Pate)

@WithinRafael And that’s exactly what Windows 11 needs, given its ruined reputation.

Hot take: Microsoft restoring top/side taskbar placement isn't a win for users. It's a quick tiny-but-noisy crowd-pleaser to buy goodwill while the real roadmap catches up.
