I’ve Done the Maths — Tinubu Will Place Third in 2027, Says El-Rufai Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has predicted that the 2027 presidential election may head into a runoff, insisting that President Bola Tinubu will not make it to the second round. Speaking on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme, El-Rufai argued that the election is unlikely to be decided in the first ballot. “I was governor of Kaduna State; I was one of Bola Tinubu’s biggest campaigners, but I couldn’t deliver the state to him,” he said. “If you want to live in self-delusion, that’s your choice. But I can tell you clearly — the worst-case scenario in 2027 is that no winner will emerge in the first round.” He stressed that in such an event, Tinubu would not be among the top two candidates. “The electorate may have to go for a runoff, and Tinubu will not be on the ballot for the runoff, because at best, he will finish third,” El-Rufai stated. According to him, his political calculations and analysis show that Tinubu has “no pathway to victory.” He also dismissed suggestions that the president could rely on state power and resources to secure a win.
