I don't understand why America doesn't have a universal job guarantee. There are neighborhoods that need cleaning, food banks that need help, elderly people who need support. If someone wants to work, there should be a place they can go and contribute. We have endless needs and plenty of willing people.

We will never have nice things like an interconnected high speed rail system that could get you from one side of the country to the other as a cheap alternative to flying. The only thing we’ll actually get is decay rot potholes and slop and we can thank the libertarian elites like David Koch and Peter Thiel who put the worms in your brain without you ever being at any point aware that they put them in there for you. Don’t worry buddy nobody would have to demolish your favorite dollar general first you have railroads that have already been built that no longer are in use the land already delegated to tracks. They wouldn’t “remove entire communities” if anything it would stimulate local communities. If it resembled anything like the Eisenhower Federal Aid Highway Act in 1956 there would be investment and construction demand which would require local and state construction companies meaning jobs for people to build this thing. Lmao brother it doesn’t end there trains everywhere stop the sole reliance on cars we need upgraded public transport including expanded metro systems. We are the only industrialized country that has parking lot cities like Houston. Also what you described is the same issue that you currently face with only having planes to get across the country.
