There is a route to making the software and hardware so great that it its not just an alternative, its a superior pathway. This is ironic for me, because in my other life I am a software dev, but I also know how much it would cost to make a good tool and no one wants to risk 5million.

@WorldLimitRPG @CorpseKings And honestly, I just prefer the vibe of traditional maps/boards/tabletop setups. This seems like something I'd play on once and say "yeah cool" and never play on again.

What's everyone thoughts on Interactive Tabletops for gaming? I think they look amazing, and love the idea of combining minis with real world animation and FX. Or, are they just a big waste of time that gets in the way of gameplay? 🎲

@Gingerblast D&D is trademarked. Maybe they are trying to avoid having the Pinkertons from WOTC showing up to rough them up.

Just saw someone use "DaD" to abbreviate Dungeons and Dragons and they need to understand that this violates an unspoken rule

Wheel of Time? Yeah, nothing really happens till the second book. That's a typical Robert Jordan book pattern. Odd # Book, all character setup and positioning. Even # Book, lots of action and chaos. Is it worth reading? I read through book 10 while in a combat zone. I don't think I would do that again outside that level of boredom. I have never considered reading the rest.

A friend suggested The Wheel of Time, by Robert Jordan. I read a little bit, then whined to him, "I read 100 pages and nothing happened." He said, "Give it another 200 pages." Anyway I never read another word. Maybe it was awesome. But I don't want to earn the right to enjoy a book. this rule particularly applies to games. An early game might have a restricted field of choice, but those choices need to exist. If you turn on Age of Empires, you start with a town center, three villagers, and some resources. What should you do? Find sheep? Hunt deer? Lure boars? find berries? Build a house? You have many choices. At the start of my board game Cthulhu Wars you have 6 cultists and a gate. Almost everyone starts the game by moving a cultist and building a gate. But where do you move that cultist? What's your third move? Summon a monster? Move a second cultist? Go after a spellbook? Games are about interesting decisions that matter.

@Mattsteveal @Airaasayss Going metaphysical now? True, observer could just be a drone in modern times. Not sure if we count corpses as people, then again having graveyards with population counts could be amusing.

@WorldLimitRPG @Airaasayss What if the killer is not a person? What if the observer doesn't consider themselves as a person? Are dead people still people? What do they mean by still? Not moving? Or present? It doesn't say still alive... So more than 3 answers, including unknown due to lack of relevant info

@Mageba_wav Butter/Oil makes early cooking of the bacon more even before the uneven shrinkage happens. You can also just store bacon grease which is quite shelf stable to do that. Another trick is to cook bacon in shallow water, or since they have cooktop presses you can use those.

@GrampsToolshed could just get a robot with their face on it. Have a dedicated AI to comb all email convos, digital and imprint to emulate them. then feed in images of letters, tax docs, etc. maybe add a pet dog.... thing is - you know that's where its headed.

The only way this could get more creepy is if you loaded an AI emulator to talk with their voice, mannerisms, habits etc etc 😖💀

@A_DungeonDelver What I do if a player has his turn and if he doesn't make a move/attack/cast, etc. in 10 seconds, then I go to the next player in initiative. A wizard should know his spells ahead of time and read them before his turn, not on his turn. This speeds up time as well

Here's a few pointers that can keep AD&D combat moving swiftly: 1. Don't bother with beyond threshold calculations. If a 9 hits, but there's bless and prayer going and you've got a +3 due to Strength and it's a +2 longsword - if a 9 hits, just say "Hit!" and move on. 2. If you know damage minima will slay the target, just tell the player the target was slain in whatever messy fashion they desire, QED. 3. Average hit points for randomly encountered monsters. Owlbear? 4HD. Avg. 16. Beef him up with an additional 4 or 5 but don't pause to roll each and every one. 4. Morale, morale, morale. If you slay 25% of an Orc army because you're finally putting the torch to Orc City and burning it to the ground because that's all orcs are good for, then start checking that morale. Unless there's specific rules that insist the monsters for whatever reason will not retreat, check that morale at the end of every round once you start bloodying them. You (and the party) don't have to slay everything on the table. Those foes? They're going to fall back. 25%-30% casualties and they will start reconsidering their position!
Line Doggie@DoggieLine

@A_DungeonDelver @SandyofCthulhu My memory of AD&D combat is absolutely not fast in the slightest. But that was a long time ago, and what I've read here the past few years makes me think that we were doing something wrong.

A follower showed me something called "Ambrosia Salad" the other day. …Is this real? Like, an actual thing people eat? Marshmallows. Whipped cream. Canned fruit. Coconut. …all of that? In one bowl? What is even supposed to go in a salad anymore? This is a salad?? I'm sorry, in what universe.

Critical Success and Critical Failure needs to be situational. That's the reality of it and why it fails as a blanket roll. Critical failure on a fighter that attacks 5 times a turn means they are 22.5% likely to have at least 1 critical failure, while that level 1 fighter with a single swing is 5%. That's just bad game design because leveling up becomes punitive for multi-attack characters.

The best house rule ever invented was critical success and critical fumble on natural 20s and natural 1s for ability checks and saves. Some of the most fun you will ever have at your table involves those moments.

The joys of crowdfunding. So, one aspect that was much better with Backerkit vice Kickstarter - there were far fewer scammers. One pledge was a total scam - disposable email & all! I reported "him" - these people are scum. Throws off the budget & is just annoying. Now that the campaign is funded, it is time to work out the final art budget - should be enough for 5 new covers & 12-20 new interior pieces. Four artists on board, 2 pending schedule conflicts, 1 awaiting reply. It'll be a solid well-rounded group of talent! Looking forward to starting! As soon as the final amount is collected, I can break down the pieces & see which artist wants each commission. @ArtsyKenB @s0ulafein @PaddyohCakes & "Decorafis" (not on x) are confirmed! I love that I've worked with some of the same artists for nearly 20 books!

Love for THAC0 is weird to me. It was bad game design. The designers could have done a few extra steps and it would have simplified play, which is what they did in modern systems. Roll + Modifier >= THAC0 - AC THAC0 is class proficiency in a table, usually (20-Proficiency). Which means you can shuffle the values about, its algebra. Had they shuffled it about, the to-hit values it would be similar to what modern systems do, without having lookup tables or extra math. Then all armor and monsters would have a to-hit value, instead of armor class. So if you focused on AC as to hit then: Roll + Modifier + Proficiency >= 20-AC It could have all been done ahead of time in the Armor type tables and the monster stat blocks, saving everyone the headache.

@YoDanno @dpmont0407 Power Bloat, and the more books WotC made, the more they bloated. Its the Magic the Gathering sales model applied to D&D books. RAW 5e isn't very lethal unless you use Action Economy against the players. Swarms are more lethal than a single heavy CR monster.

THAC0 was incomplete math being forced on gametime. Its simple algebra, but didn't need to be dropped onto the players for every to-hit roll. The AC system should have been normalized to a simple roll value like modern systems, and the same with the monster designs. You really miss the other things from those older systems, not the To-Hit design, but the To-hit design sticks out as the marker as the most obvious thing. Its like a banner calling you to it, but its really the soldiers around the banner that you care for.
