@casseroleboy Also if you're going to ask yourself this q, It's worth going one step further to wonder why bands like this pop. There's more music than anyone can listen to, local stages are overstuffed, legit talent goes undiscovered etc. This seems like a hack to stand out and be remembered.

@hecubian_devil "Yes, AI will be bad for society, but it is very powerful, and without unprecedented international cooperation it will never go away, so we had better start planning," has got to be the least-popular position in recent history that is also obvious to everyone paying attention.

Again, I am deeply hostile to generative AI as it exists; I think rich tech oligarchs will destroy democracy with it, if we let them. I also think the “it won’t catch on” skeptics sound exactly like the skeptics of every new information technology for the last 200 years

After two years of "up high... to the side... other side... down low... YEAH BRO!" I finally hit the 4-year-old with the "TOO SLOW." Peals of laughter, totally worth it.

Another reason for music journos to switch from Spotify: The Sienna Rose prompt team scrubbed Spotify, but I found a trail of evidence on Tidal. The avatar emerged in 2025 as a pale redhead with an acoustic guitar and ended the year pretending to be a Black woman who sang R&B.
CONSEQUENCE@consequence

Sienna Rose, an AI-generated artist that released 10 albums between September and December last year, now has 2.7 million monthly listeners and has placed three songs on Spotify’s Viral 50 chart. consequence.net/2026/01/sienna…

@Wren_Field Ron Carter is almost 90 and has been playing 2 shows a night since the 50s he’s got more shows than Bob Weir for sure

Not trying to diminish Weir's incredible legacy but neither of these claims are true. Artists who certainly played more shows than Weir: BB King Willie Nelson James Brown Probably Tony Bennett and Mike Love, too. Rolling Stones and McCartney def played for more total people.
Adam Zagoria@AdamZagoria

Bobby Weir likely played more live shows - in front of more people - than anyone in the history of mankind. And he brought joy to millions over six decades of music. His loss leaves a huge hole.

@lxeagle17 Not to mention expanded definitions of autism and ADHD in the DSM-4 and DSM-5 that pathologized previously 'normal' behaviors.

therapy has done a lot of good for a lot of people but I also think there is a small part of millennials/gen Z that seems to actively be searching for some type of mental illness or wants to *confirm* that something is wrong with them in ways that didn't exist for boomers/gen X.

I can't take all the credit — not even close — but I'm proud to share that in my first year as Managing Editor, our overall traffic grew 30% year-over-year, with over 50% growth in the last six months. Lucky to work with a great team of passionate people, excited for 2026!

There are genuine concerns about affordability in the U.S., but the viral piece redefining poverty at $140,000 is based on bad assumptions and selective evidence, writes Tyler Cowen for The Free Press. thefp.com/p/the-myth-of-…
