This is 100% the correct call. If you know anything about baseball, runners do not run in a direct straight line between bases. Runners typically run a curved path to efficiently hit a base without having to pivot.

I politely disagree with @whitesox broadcaster this is 💯 obstruction, SS was standing in the baseline without ⚾️ impeding the runner, proper call was made & @Mariners were awarded a run. Per @MLB Rulebook read it! Easy call! #WhiteSox #Mariners #MLB

@balkwhisperer Its clearly obstruction but man I have a hard time thinking he would have scored on that to award him home. Hard to truly say without seeing the entirety of the play since video cuts back and forth

Reminder that the award of home is not automatic. Umpire has to judge the runner "likely" to be safe had the obstruction not occurred.
The key , though, is that if they only protect him to 3rd and he's out at home he does NOT get to go back to 3rd. It's not a "no risk" play.

@balkwhisperer The call of Obstruction requires the fielder be in the runners original path and interfered with the runner. The runner left his original path to interfere with the fielder

@SoxOn35th The comments in this thread are mad about the wrong thing. It’s clear as day obstruction. Infielder needs to avoid runner rounding a base within reason and that’s within reason. Id be upset that umpire made judgement he’d still arguably be safe without obstruction.
