The wealth gap between the richest and poorest in the UK soared by nearly 50% in less than a decade, as stalling wages and rising asset values fuelled inequality at the height of austerity.

@garyseconomics @MakeThem_Pay There is absolutely no evidence to back the assertion that living standards are getting worse solely due to inequality -mainly because inequality is hasn't gone higher over the past years. This policy proposal is far from serious.

@garyseconomics If obscenely wealthy Billionaires are the targets, why is the wealth tax suggested taxing anyone with assets over £10m? An asset over £10m could be a business value finally reached, but unsold to an entrepreneur who fought for the last 10 years of their life to get there and has likely paid hundreds of thousands in tax already. They will have to sell some of their business unwillingly, or take out an enourmous dividend, (all essentially double taxed) to pay it. Why punish them?
