marketing people offer journos exclusives/access to convince people to promote single releases and the like. They leverage their networks and their understanding of social media to increase the reach of their clients. This is all part of the game if you want to make a living

Geese released a very good record, then their frontman released a slow burner on a diff label that knocked a lot of people on their ass,. more people were paying attention when the next album came out. Hiring a PR firm for your increasingly popular act is not a psy-op. Grow up

People love to downplay Plant’s role but there’s value to having a one of one voice. Allison Krauss didnt write “When You Say Nothing at All.” Her voice makes the argument that it’s her song. (A correct take I struggle with having grown up with Whitley’s version)
