What makes Freddy so compelling, in my opinion, is the version of America he’s discovering. Most European tourists experience the United States through its biggest symbols: New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Las Vegas. Even when they seek out nature, they often end up in the country’s most crowded destinations like the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone. They leave having seen America’s landmarks, but also its visible struggles: homelessness, urban decay, drug crises, and the impersonality that can come with life in major cities. Freddy’s journey is different. He’s crossing the country by road, through small towns and the heartland. He’s meeting welcoming people, driving beneath endless skies, and experiencing a side of America built on everyday kindness, optimism, and local traditions. Instead of focusing on decline, he’s witnessing a country that still believes in itself. It’s an America many foreign visitors never get to see. And that’s exactly why so many people connect with Freddy.
