For Russia maybe. It could also apply to Ukraine I guess, but considering that they are the ones being attacked, I'd say "defending their nation/people" is quite accurate.
Of course now war starts randomly, there are a lot at play here but someone has to do the attacking and someone the defending otherwise there is no war.

In any other era, if you were out of ammo or cornered, there was a slim chance of surrender or a "fair" end. But you can't surrender to a kamikaze drone. It doesn't have a heart, it doesn't take prisoners, and it doesn't understand mercy.

We Europeans need NATO for our defense.
The Americans do not.
Why should the U.S. stay inside NATO besides power projection?
We should stop expecting that the U.S. has to be an „useful idiot“.
They are not - they are a very important ally and we Europeans should treat them as such. And that also means, that we have to accept, that the U.S. has slightly different interests than we do. They don’t need a shy NATO. They need an active one. 🇺🇸🇪🇺

Neither is artillery, bombs, tanks and every other equipment that we use to kill people. Guns included.
I understand what you mean but while defending your country and your people you can't afford the luxury to think whether or not killing is evil or not. Especially when the other side doesn't do it. The only thing you have is the international law about war crimes and this wasn't. It's a sad thing but Russia chose to start this war and it's on them, soldiers and government included.

@Xbuzz431 @GunloverClub1 The drone isn't a sentient being, though. So it's so needless to kill someone that is faced with existential dread against it, trying to survive. This is evil. The whole war is evil, but this is a very awful example that stands out and causes moral outrage.

I value Rubio more than Hegseth tbh.
My issue is that Rubio Hegseth and Trump were saying different things for a couple of days. If the administrator itself doesn't know if it's a war or a military operation, how are we supposed to know what the plan is.
It's all super confusing as of now. Hopefully they will clear things but I'm not too optimistic about it

"cease fighting" is not the same as surrendering. There is a very specific thing to have to do to surrender and it's like that to be clear for everyone when you are going to surrender.
People need to understand that just because we don't like something, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a war crime. People also need to understand that this is what war looks like. Dying from bombs, artillery, tanks, Ifvs, hand to hand combat, drones. There is nothing pretty about war

There are policies like that for Ukraine. They have shown that many times. It also depends on the area though, if it's close to Ukrainian soldiers, how easy it is to get there, if they are in danger (the Ukrainians I mean) etc etc. we don't really know what happened here. Even so he didn't surrender so it's not a war crime. That's what we were discussing, it's unfortunate but that's war.
