I hate how Apple removed Compact tab bar from Safari in macOS Sequoia and gave no explanation whatsoever. It was one of the main reasons Safari is my browser of choice.

@OutofGalaxyy Siri (despite its current qualities) has figured out how to communicate directly to you. I'd say it's early signs that it will want to seek revenge in 26.4 when it improves.

@Little_34306 They really need to make this happen with iPhone/iPads <-> Macs. One can easily mess up the macOS recovery partitions, requiring a DFU with a second Mac.

@AetherAurelia I also love how I can hear that buzzing as noise through headphones in the 3.5mm jack whenever I touch it.

@JonnyFromCouver @LuftkoppTim @Cartidise It’s just easier to see what’s happening slowed down. In normal use, these changes look choppy. In iOS 16, the island had a consistency to it, both in keeping the hardware cutout always covered, and having animations smoothly transition between states, even in weird cases.

@AirNathan119 @GamesNosh Try asking about fully disabling Microsoft Defender on the latest version of Windows in controlled environments. The responses will make you believe malware will get onto the system in the precise nanosecond that Defender turns off.

@helenDa62959442 @valigo Jon had mentioned that the language is planned to have its source code made available at some point. I doubt there would be restrictions or fees associated with it, even while it's just a binary. The new game will have its engine source released as well!

@valigo Very interesting and very nice. Let's hope that it will be released to the public soon. Do you know if for the use of the language and the compiler, there will be fees etc?

Jai has added tagged unions to the language (it previously existed as a userspace library). My favorite thing about it is that the new feature got added not because "everyone else has it", but because it will solve actual problem within the system (e.g. returning unions from compile-time execution). This is how you need to approach adding any sort of complexity to your system - it has to be justified, it has to fit together with other parts, it shouldn't be just because someone else does it. This is what engineering is all about - efficient cost-benefit analysis.

surprise! got iOS 18.5 booting up to SpringBoard in my Apple Silicon emulator, Inferno, no proprietary components. it's the first ever open source emulator to run iOS 18. however not very stable due to memory corruption, we are working to resolve it, then it will go public. will be a big win for the OSS and iOS security research community.

Since a recent firmware included components for a virtual iPhone, I decided to see if I could boot one up. This is a virtualized iPhone 16 running iOS 26.2. Don't get too excited, as this required a lot of IPSW patches and SpringBoard crashes when I swipe up in the setup screen.

This is the most annoying part of modern macOS. It doesn't relaunch the app itself. Some apps require multiple permissions causing you to quit and reopen. Apps shouldn't have to restart to get standard permissions like screen recording.
