RUSSIA WARNS OF NATO CLASH RISK A senior Russian official warned Tuesday that the risk of a direct Russia-NATO confrontation is increasing and could have catastrophic consequences. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told Russian state media that growing tensions and what he called provocative nuclear actions are raising strategic risks across Europe. He said European capitals are increasingly discussing the threat of a high-intensity war with Russia.

👀 Bloomberg: NATO is discussing a possible mission to help protect ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz if the waterway remains blocked into July. The proposal reportedly has backing from several NATO members but not yet unanimous support.

“The Canada-led NATO brigade in Latvia has moved beyond its original “tripwire” deterrence posture and is now focused on mounting a credible defense of the Baltic country bordering Russia, according to its commander, Col. Kris Reeves. I spoke with security policy officials from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia 🇱🇹🇱🇻🇪🇪 about recent provocations, threats and drones. In short: ▪️Officials see no evidence of a sharply increased threat level or imminent Russian action. Russia currently lacks the capacity for that. But it is “raising the temperature” – hoping to spread fear, anxiety and uncertainty. ▪️The threats are viewed as an attempt to deter the Baltic states from supporting Ukraine and to divide them. They also reflect Moscow’s irritation over painful Ukrainian drone strikes and the broader course of the war, which has recently been unfavourable to the Kremlin. ▪️That does not make the references to specific sites in Latvia, or the Kaliningrad factor, irrelevant. Russia used similar pressure against Lithuania in 2022 over Kaliningrad–related sanctions. The answer remains the same: stronger national capabilities, better allied integration, and greater resilience.

Russia's SVR told the world that Ukrainian drone operators are stationed at Ādaži, Sēlija, Liepāja, Daugavpils, and Jēkabpils military bases. Threatened “just retribution” – as did Russia’s ambassador at the UN just now. This is a clumsy information operation designed for a very specific purpose. First, the facts. Latvia does not provide airspace for attacks on Russia. This has been stated clearly, repeatedly, officially. The accusations are pure fiction. Ukraine has a legitimate right to self-defence, but Kyiv executes it from its own sovereign soil. This SVR operation is not a warning. But it can be a pretext. Moscow always accuses others of exactly what it intends to do. By seeding this fiction through the UN Security Council and proxy Telegram channels, the Kremlin is preparing the information space. The goal is transparent. When Russian military intelligence inevitably attempts to sneak their own drones through Baltic skies or stage a border incident, they now have a pre-written script to blame Kyiv and accuse Riga of complicity. The Russian system relies on manufacturing phantom regional threats to mask its catastrophic reality on the frontline. They want us to flinch at the spectre of escalation. We will not. We should treat this exactly as it is: a staged argument for future provocations. Stay alert, document everything, and deny Moscow the ambiguity it depends on. We know the playbook, we expect the provocation, and we will defend our airspace without hesitation.
