Very constructive meeting with Gen. Khairi Al-Tamimi, SG of the LNA, and Maj. Gen. Ahmed Bushnaf and Brig. Gen. Rashid Al-Amami. This was a great opportunity to express our gratitude to the LNA for their support and the training and discussions on International Humanitarian Law.

On 18 Oct, we discussed the humanitarian situation in Libya with H.E Robert B. Norland, US Special Envoy to Libya, and Jeremy Berndt, US Chargé d’Affaires. We discussed the ICRC’s mandate to support communities affected by conflict and the importance of IHL.

On 17 Oct, I had a productive meeting with H.E. Aydar R. Aganin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation. We discussed Libya’s humanitarian situation, the importance of IHL and the ICRC’s role in supporting conflict-affected communities and strengthening humanitarian efforts.

On 13,10, we had a promising meeting in Tripoli with the Undersecretary on the MoI, Mr. Basheer Belgasem & Major General Tawfik Al-Denbawi to discuss the importance of international humanitarian law and explore ways of future collaboration in training to raise awareness of IHL.

I visited Derna a few days after last year’s floods. It’s impossible to comprehend what people have endured. In my 13 years in the humanitarian field, I've never seen such a tragedy. However, we've seen an extraordinary sense of unity and solidarity among the Libyan population

On July 24, 2024 in Benghazi, I had the pleasure to meet Counselor Khaled Masoud Saad, Minister of Justice. We exchanged our perspectives on the current situation and identified new areas of collaboration.

On July 24, 2024, I had a very interesting meeting in Benghazi with Mr. Al Mabrouk Mohammed Ghaith, Minister of Social Affairs, and discussed ways to strengthen collaboration in order to improve the activities of the ICRC in Libya.

On 22.7, I held a meeting in Benghazi with Dr. Abdul Hadi Al-Hawaij, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Farraj Al-Hassi the Dir. of Int. Organizations. I reaffirmed our commitment to respecting Libyan culture expressed gratitude to the Minister for respecting the ICRC's mandate

The ICRC office – which is surrounded by hundreds of displaced civilians living in tents – was damaged by nearby shelling in Gaza. Firing so dangerously close to humanitarian structures puts the lives of civilians and humanitarians at risk.

When heavy explosive weapons hit cities, the visible horrors are just the beginning. Over and over again, in armed conflicts worldwide, we see ongoing suffering.
