@Courageousvipe1 @geoffkeighley To be fair: its probably the fault of "the suits" higher up in the companies that rush them to make the game. But given how strong the "its UE5s fault" narrative is, there is little reason for them to care.

@YaekoGames @geoffkeighley So basically alot not all but a large majority of devs for these companies are lazy and don't have a well optimized game to begin with in terms of performance and making the game stable

@Courageousvipe1 @geoffkeighley You can literally take (many, depends on plugins) UE4 projects and open them in UE5, as long as they have been on 4.26+ for conversion reasons Of course, one needs to turn off TSR and some minor things that arent obvious, but then its identical in terms of performance.

@YaekoGames @geoffkeighley I feel like your last point is the main one the engine just hasn't been messed with enough and needed more time to flourish and be learned but from what your saying the engines fundamentally are the same for the most part

@Courageousvipe1 @geoffkeighley - games being built first, and no one ever asked "is XY even doable with our hardware targets?" - "we can optimize that later" mentality (spoiler: often they cant anymore) - graphics armsrace (just because UE5 provides something, doesnt mean everyone should use it right now...)

@Courageousvipe1 @geoffkeighley - sometimes the graphics card vendors push "dumb" features into games that cause issues. - "FSR will fix it" mentality - oh and we definitely need forced hardware raytracing for no good reason too, because screw everyone with older or cheaper graphics cards.

@Courageousvipe1 @geoffkeighley ue5 performs identically to ue4 at the same settings - blame the developers, not UE5. (yes, I benchmarked this, multiple times.)

@geoffkeighley They need to just implement raytracing into ue4 at this point no sense slapping another number on a engine that barely function on 90% of gaming pcs unless you have some type of frame gen or fsr/dlss enabled

@starazyree thats actually the thing that makes no sense with those ue5-ports - if anything, it should run better. (I tried by taking a UE4 project to UE5) Guess there is just something going wrong somewhere, because: if I can achieve at least similar performance, why cant big studios?

@YaekoGames hope so cause some games made improvements going to 5 like valorant but then there are games that just runs so shit on lower end pcs (i uprgraded last year because of it)

@starazyree I hope they make it "more intuitive" to unlock the full potential of UE5(6), because currently you have to do some unintuitive things to prevent the Engine from "unoptimizing by trying to optimize". There is a "clash of technology" going on in UE5, that needs to be resolved.

@MisterPXL We actually did reach this, and even surpassed it, assuming you set up your stuff properly.

I did not expect an Unreal Engine 6 announcement out of nowhere to be honest. 😅 @UnrealEngine how about you share some of the spicy stuff with all of us 😉

@OverJumpRally yeah, this is just "so that its there" for now, replacing something there isnt much work in the future. I probably can just use recolored forest rocks for this, so that I dont increase filesize of the game or vram usage etc.

@YaekoGames Remember to put more levigated (smoothed out) rocks where the river (and the dried-up one) is!

Finished the dried up river and some more decoration, now just "the other desert" left over before I can go back to building content into the new Biomes. All of the biomes need a round of "polishing" before release to fix some small issues here and there. Work in progress 😉

Toned the brightness a bit down, since it (this area specifically) was a bit too much strain on the eyes. After all, playing should be comfortable and not "annoying" in some way. Probably need to change some colors and stuff in the future, but thats a problem for "future me".

Oh, I know that challenge! I had a very similar one with my game. I actually ended up with 5 different biomes, all connected to each other. My advice is to have a couple of color options for the same mesh. Also, you could use BIG, faded Decals to help with the transition (like I did for the area around the waterfall to add wetness from the mist).

Trying to make a "more dry" biome, but it ended up between the forest and the canyon style desert, I have to figure out how to reasonably integrate it. There need to be enough trees/foliage to fit next to the forest, but also enough desert to fit the desert 🤔 Work in Progress

@Rev0verDrive guess I should experiment with this in the future, its one of those things I have not yet touched. thanks for the explanation.

@YaekoGames Networking adds game thread processing time. A huge chunk comes from sim proxy simulation and potentially correction... players. CMC client-side prediction. There's also processing replicated data for other networked actors. Spawning/destroying net actors.

Experimented a bit with "the Background", and this is the result. Not perfect, but a good starting point for future improvements. Now I need to figure out how to use this for the other Biomes and push the games look above its weight class (if it isnt already). Work in Progress

@Rev0verDrive depends on what you want to do with it, but I dont see why this wouldnt work in multiplayer. Its not like trees walk around and cause network issues.
