Heavenly Gamer recently put out a video regarding black representation in Mortal Kombat and how poorly the black characters are represented. Myself and Avataryaya will be watching the video on stream today and giving our thoughts. I thought having a black American on to discuss it with is for the best since I am black British and have very different views on representation to my brothers and sisters across the pond. "Expert" Gary Stevenson is a standard issue midwit conman and if you believe a word that comes out of his mouth you're a fool. I disagree with just about everything the government did during COVID. Unlike Stevenson, I think this means we should not be giving the government more power and money. But he's - as usual - making shit up. The government did not print a trillion during COVID. If you take every pound the government has printed since 2009, you still don't reach a trillion. It spent around £380bn during COVID, mostly on things Stevenson and his mongoloid army supports: the NHS, public transport, vaccine procurement, lockdown enforcement etc. Furlough comes in at between £70-90bn of that, depending on whether you include self-employment support. Business support ensured small highstreet businesses, like the Escape Room I worked at at the time, did not go bust. My boss was not "the richest elite." The closest you get to the dynamic he describes is QE's general effect on asset prices. But this is only a transfer to the "richest elites" if your definition includes anyone with a pension. Stevenson cannot even distinguish between monetary and fiscal policy, just as he does not distinguish between income and wealth, just as he cannot describe the basics of the tax system. That none of this matters to him, to his fans, or to many of his interviewers, tells you a lot about their motives. He is the economics equivalent of the Ibram X Kendi race grift. Runaway inflation, non-existent growth, tax- and rate rises, and strangling regulations have all contributed to a cost-of-living crisis. I'm not sure where "the richest elites" come into it. We don't have many of those to begin with, and they already pay most of the tax. His solution to all this is, as usual, a wealth tax. At the absolute upper end estimate, before accounting for behavioural changes that obliterate that figure (hence so many abandoned wealth taxes around the world), you raise £25bn. That is the equivalent of 2 months of interest payments on the national debt. It would fund the NHS for about 6 weeks. It would cost far more in tax revenue than it takes in. If the government had handed a trillion to the richest elites, it hasn't appeared in any data set outside Stevenson's head. Income inequality has been in long-term decline, and the share of wealth held by the top and bottom in UK society has basically not changed for decades. That this so tightly correlates with the country becoming an absolute shit hole is largely due to successive governments applying Stevensonista economic priorities: raising taxes, regulations and prices while destroying growth by eating "the rich". If you think we have a cost of living crisis now, wait until this chimp gets his way and wipes out the tax base. He'll be fine, because he'll move his significant wealth elsewhere like every other rich chancer. The people who'll suffer include the brain-rotted middle class poverty LARPers who fund his Patreon. They, at least, will deserve it. If you want to confiscate other people's wealth despite the facts saying it'll make poverty and inequality worse, then you don't care about poverty or inequality. You're just looking for an excuse to pretend stealing is virtuous.
