U of T Economist Josef Steinberg responds 1. The US private sector is building data centers all over the place without gov't subsidies. Demand for compute is growing extremely rapidly. What is missing in Canada that makes data centers not viable investments on their own? 2. Why Telus? They have no experience in AI. @jbsteinberg

🧵A few journalists have asked why the retirement of high end climate scenarios is a big deal Fair Q Here are the numbers: ➡️Retired reference scenario “very likely” = 5.7C in 2100 ➡️New “current policies” scenario = 2.7C in 2100 Note: New HIGH is _not_ a reference scenario

Climate alarmists have pushed apocalyptic narratives for years. Many NGOs and organizations have relied on fear to secure funding and public attention. It will likely take years before some climate zealots begin toning down their messaging to better reflect what the science is actually telling us. Climate change is real and serious, but increasingly, new research suggests it is manageable — not the end of the world.

Some of the world’s leading climate scientists are now acknowledging that humanity is unlikely to follow the catastrophic path that dominated climate communication for much of the last decade. So Canada needs climate policy rooted in pragmatism, not ideology. Especially in food...

Many don't realize the debt crisis may come from the Middle East. This is why Iran is attacking UAE. During Covid, oil plummeted. The Gulf states borrowed. Once you get into debt, you can't get out. Worst yet, Iraq signed a deal with China. This is what China's been doing. They lend people the money. If you default, they take the asset. So China could legally take Iraq.

Energy expert Dr. Lars Schernikau: It sounds simple… until you do the math. • 1 GWh battery = 700,000 tons of mined materials • Takes 450 GWh to build (450x its capacity) • Stores as much as 400 tons of coal Hours of storage. Massive mining, degradation & risks. This doesn’t fix intermittency, it multiplies the destruction. ‘Batteries are an environmental nightmare’.

Willie Soon: The IPCC’s Core Climate Metric Doesn’t Hold Up Willie Soon takes on one of the most important numbers in modern climate science: Earth Energy Imbalance, or EEI. In this presentation from the 16th International Conference on Climate Change, Soon argues that the IPCC’s confidence in EEI goes far beyond what current measurements can support. He traces the concept back to James Hansen’s 1985 work, examines the role of climate models, and questions whether satellite data, ocean heat content, Argo floats, solar irradiance measurements, and planetary albedo estimates can actually detect a signal as small as the one being claimed. Soon’s central argument is direct: Earth Energy Imbalance is treated as a measured quantity, but he says it is better understood as a model-anchored residual buried under major uncertainties. Topics include: •Satellite energy budget measurements •Ocean heat content and Argo float sampling •Total solar irradiance uncertainty •Planetary albedo and cloud variability •The IPCC’s use of adjusted data products •The “black cat in a dark room” metaphor for modern climate claims Watch Willie Soon’s full ICCC16 presentation from The Heartland Institute, and follow for more speeches from the 16th International Conference on Climate Change. youtu.be/-NW77XoIEno?si… via @YouTube

For years, millions of children were taught that climate catastrophe was inevitable. Worst-case scenarios like RCP8.5 were presented as the expected future — fueling fear, anxiety and hopelessness among young people worldwide. Now even the climate establishment admits that RCP8.5 was implausible. Scientific institutions must restore credibility. Media must stop amplifying climate fear. Schools must stop presenting extreme scenarios as certainty. Children deserve facts, not fear. #ClimateAnxiety #RCP85 #ClimateScience #EcoAnxiety #ClimateFear #Science #Education #ClimateCrisis

@FoodProfessor @FriendsOScience Yes 🙌 acknowledged! Canada made decisions based on this report👇 changingclimate.ca/site/assets/up… In it th IPCC’s RCP models that have dominated climate research over the past 20 yrs specifically, RCP8.5, SSP5-8.5 and SSP3-7.0 are now gone Didn’t we borrow 7.5b$ to strike price carbon ?

The "China Shock 2.0" is a calculated reality that the West can no longer ignore. A new, high-stakes report from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce reveals that Beijing has moved beyond "Made in China 2025" into a systemic Industrial Policy of Everything. This is no longer just a race for high-tech supremacy. China is weaponizing massive state-directed credit to dominate every layer of the global supply chain, from legacy chips to raw chemicals. By 2030, this state-coordinated campaign is projected to displace $650 billion in G7 manufacturing exports. The data from the report exposes a brutal, asymmetric imbalance: - $1.7 Trillion Surplus: China’s manufacturing trade surplus has nearly doubled since 2019, creating a glut that forces competitors out of business. - 315 Dominant Products: The number of product categories where China controls over 50% of global exports surged from 192 in 2021 to 315 by 2024. - The German Warning: German auto exports to China have crashed by 66% as state-subsidized Chinese brands cannibalize the market. The Party’s goal is to make true diversification a mathematical impossibility. By "hiding" Chinese components in third-country exports, Beijing ensures that even "de-risked" supply chains still lead back to the CCP. This report confirms that we are witnessing the intentional hollowing out of Western industrial capacity. The CCP isn't just competing for a seat at the table. It is rebuilding the table to ensure everyone else is merely a guest. Source: uschamber.com/assets/documen… #UnveiledChina #USChamber #ChinaShock #EconomicWarfare #SupplyChain #IndustrialPolicy

The Cost of Net Zero Electrification of the U.S.A. "This study finds that the battery costs for replacing all current fossil fuel fired electricity with wind and solar generated electricity, using 2020 electricity data, is 111 times that estimated by the Tanton report. The total capital cost of electrification is herein estimated, using 2020 data, at US$290 trillion, or 13.5 times the U.S.A. 2019 gross domestic product." blog.friendsofscience.org/2021/12/21/the…
