Pleased that @MLInstitute could publish this paper by @E_R_Sepulveda that makes the case against a national power grid. Increased trade and transmission is desirable. But moving to a system that relies on firm dispatchable hydro and nuclear capacity to balance intermittent wind and solar generation across jurisdictions is likely to face resistance. Hydro-rich provinces currently export MWh for much more than they import MWh and have little incentive to move from negotiated rates to wholesale prices.
