@PopBase Also rmember the tens of thousands of Sri Lankans massacred by the LTTE who were committing a genocide against Sri Lankans. They committed ethnic cleansing in the North. During the 30 years of war, did the government ever chase away Tamils from government-controlled areas?

Geoffrey Bawa turned an abandoned horse stable into one of the most studied residential conversions in Asian architecture. This is how. The Horagolla House began as an abandoned horse stable on a family property. Bawa visited the site, stood and studied it, then agreed to convert it. Over four years in the 1980s, he remodelled the stables with restraint into a double height living space. The stable hall became the living room. Verandas looked out over garden courts. Trees were planted around the perimeter on Bawa’s advice, Hora, Kotang and Kohombo. Burma teak sourced from old houses across the island. Clay pots. A salvaged Dutch door that Sunethra and Bawa famously competed over at the same antique dealer. Bawa rejected the imposition of preconceived forms onto a site. Every project began with the land; its trees, its light and its climate. The building followed. That philosophy produced homes that feel inevitable rather than imposed. He is widely regarded as the father of tropical modernism in Sri Lanka and the Horagolla House is one of the clearest examples of why. Horagolla House, Sri Lanka. Geoffrey Bawa. 📷 Ashish Sahi

An unforgettable moment! ❤️🏀 As the final whistle blew, the players of The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana couldn’t hear it… but their coach turned to them and signalled the greatest news of all — THEY HAD WON! 🥹👏 The team made history by winning the first-ever Under-16 All Island D Tier 2 match played today. A truly inspiring moment between a coach and his boys in the tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Basketball Association. 🇱🇰

The Hind Rajab Foundation has filed a formal denunciation in Sri Lanka against Israeli-American soldier Jake Burkons, citing credible evidence of his involvement in the destruction of civilian infrastructure during Gaza operations. Burkons, serving in the 603rd Combat Engineering Battalion, is currently present in Sri Lanka. HRF urged authorities to act in line with international law, stressing that states have a duty to investigate and prosecute grave breaches of humanitarian law. His case, they noted, reflects a wider pattern of conduct by Israeli units in Gaza.

Sri Lanka doesn’t just need influencers. It needs the right kind of influencers. We need people who inspire others to build real, skill-based careers. People who show that being a carpenter, mason, electrician, or mechanic is something to be respected and taken seriously. Because one of the biggest problems we face today is the lack of proper skills in these trades. Many people work for a few months under someone and then start on their own without fully learning the craft. The result is poor quality work, unfinished projects, and clients left chasing after their own money. This is not about disrespecting blue-collar jobs. It is the opposite. These professions are essential and deserve respect, proper training, and professionalism. That is why influencers who promote skills, discipline, and craftsmanship add far more value to society than those who only tell us where to eat, what to wear, or what to buy. If we want a better Sri Lanka, we need to value competence over convenience, and skills over hype.
