Dev@sleepy_devo

@nyaraVT yes i watched you debate both occo and leaflit on this very topic fortunately for you, neither of them knew what the loki's wager fallacy is! no, i don't actually need to adhere to your unreasonable demand that i perfectly demark the boundary you're looking to define.

@nonregemesse As a fan of Byzantine history - it's overrated. It's history is a long but steady territorial and cultural contraction. This was punctured by few (arguably 4) pulses of revival, which regained some of the previous loses but created more reasons for further contraction.

The east Roman Empire is severely underrated militarily as a result of centuries of lazy tropes and disinterest in their history. This is a thread on the greatest east Roman generals whose wars and campaigns are the stuff of legends! [Thread]🧵

The Osman Çavuş Mosque in the northwest Greek city of Ioannina was constructed in 1618 by Ottoman occupiers. It was destroyed in 1930, 17 years after the Greek Army liberated the city, using dynamite to clear a site for a school.

@JemappelleEve I have friends on both sides. I never understand this hatred. Most Turks in the west and north are of Greek-Slavic descent. The same goes for Cyprus. Genetically, there's hardly any difference.

@nntaleb @gnuseibeh This is absolute historical revisionism - in fact, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchates were protected, safeguarded, and flourished during Islamic rule.

TOTAL BS!!! The Holy Sepulcher has been under Muslim guards (family of @gnuseibeh) since the 12C, because of their "neutrality" vis-à-vis quarreling Christian factions (Latin Catholics, Greek Orthodox, Armenian). Meanwhile Israel expelled ~half the original Christians in 1948.

@MentisWave That's because they are not actually thinking about the argument at all. They are pre-programmed to morph words to fit their worldview without actually filtering them. So he is not actually close to getting it at all. He is just spell-casting in Aramaic.

As a kid I cried myself to sleep every night wishing to just wake up as a girl. I felt trapped in my own body and found out that this isn’t how everyone else feels. With 14 I tried to take my own life because I just didn’t know why I was different. I had no idea what being trans was, but I have always been trans. I had no education, representation, no supportive environment and kept everything to myself. I just wanted to be a normal average girl, not a femboy, so I didn’t experiment at all with my gender expression. This made me numb, miserable, depressed and anxious. I isolated myself and felt no sense of accomplishment for anything I did. All I was, was just a shell. A lifeless body waiting to expire. With 18 I learned about the trans community (during the anti-SJW era) and I felt embarrassed. I didn’t want to be trans. I knew I wasn’t cìs but I didn’t want to be associated with the LGBTQ+ community because of the ways they were being portrayed. With 20 I educated myself more. With 22 I couldn’t take it anymore. I came out. Found a therapist willing to help me and started medically transitioning when I turned 25. These past 2 years finally felt like I am living my life. Transitioning saved me. This is the reality of the trans experience.

@byzantineprof @Roberto13311222 Hi, Turkish here. Both we & Greeks in Turkey call them Rum/Roman whereas Greeks from Greece are called Yunan (“Ionian”).Rums are a legally recognised minority, under the Lausanne Treaty and Turkish law. So,Roman citizens “legally” exist to this day, tho unfortunately few in number

The Byzantines were Romans and the Byzantine Empire was the Roman Empire in the East. Let’s see what historical evidence we can bring to bear to prove these assertions. I present 20 examples from medieval primary sources in this mega thread. 🧵

@byzantineprof With such historical and logical leaps and acrobatics, anyone could (based on the linguistic and cultural historical background) equally argue that the (Latin) Roman Empire was the interlude between two Hellenistic civilizations, that of antiquity and the later Byzantine.
