who else has the nightly war over sleep?
every night same script:
— "just one more cartoon"
— "ok, last one, i promise"
— kid with red eyes, phone in hand
— and that quiet thought: "welp, i caved again"
then it hit me: we try to calm kids down with the exact thing that winds them up. cartoons = noise, flashes, "next video for you." a story is the opposite — a voice, a plot, quiet. the kid doesn't zone out, they slowly wind down.

unpopular opinion: giving your kid an ipad isn't the problem. the problem is that everything on it was built to keep THEM watching, not to make them think. we handed our kids to an algorithm and called it "screen time" like it's one thing. it's not.

not saying short video "breaks" kids attention. i dont have the study.
but i notice my kid can sit through a 10 min story and ask questions, then cant sit through the same 10 min the day he had a lot of screen time.
