Trump says the war in Iran will end soon and that he won’t be placing ground troops anywhere, which obviously explains why the U.S. is now sending thousands of additional troops to the Middle East, reviewing a possible seizure of Kharg Island and preparing to ask Congress for a $200 billion supplemental. Americans and people around the world also shouldn’t worry too much about oil prices, which is why the U.S. is now allowing Russian oil to be purchased and floating sanctions relief on Iranian oil, which will provide Iran—you know, the country we’re currently bombing—more money to fight the war Trump insists will be over soon. Last but not least, Trump definitely doesn’t need NATO’s help to re-open the Strait of Hormuz, which is why he’s been begging NATO for assistance and throws a hissy get when allies don’t want any part of it. This entire thing is f—ing insane.

NEW: In a letter to employees, United CEO Scott Kirby says the airline is prepping for oil to hit $175/barrel & “doesn't get back down to $100/barrel until the end of 2027.” United is shaving 3% of off-peak flights - “think redeyes, Tues/Wed/Sat flying” - this spring & summer.

The reason other Presidents did not start a war in Iran is because they were all told it would likely cause terrible price increases for Americans, would spin out of control and cost tens of thousands of lives, and cost hundreds of billions of $. Trump was told the same thing.

I filled up my tank yesterday. $87. A month ago it was $54. Saudi Aramco's internal models project $180 oil by late April. The people who know oil better than anyone on earth are terrified of their own number.

what a beautiful, unique soulful experience late last night with this homeless man in Las Vegas. he called my name as I walked by. I was surprised so I stopped to say hello and help him out with a little cash. He told me a story how he was at the launch of the #vanhalen #1995 balance Tour in #pensacolaflorida he told me what I was wearing that night, things I said. Remembered #jonstewart introducing us. this man was intelligent, kind, spiritual, and elegant. We talked for a while, and it was enlightening for me to realize how many people like him, families, etc., that have become #homeless I can see it. I just don't know what to do about it.

So for anyone keeping track... groceries are going up even more... gas is, too.... and people can't get through TSA to catch their more expensive flights.... all because the U.S. is more focused on foreign affairs than our own. But America First, right?

In a sudden turn of events, US 12-month inflation expectations have surged to 5.2%, the highest level since March 2023. In just 3 weeks, markets have gone from pricing-in rate cuts to rate hikes.

If the war ended *tomorrow* the world is still probably looking a 10-15% hit to global food production over the next 18 months (obviously much worse in areas that import food). And the war is not ending tomorrow.

JD Vance says Americans deserve their voices heard and that starts with safe elections. The SAVE America Act is his answer. Here is what the bill actually does. It eliminates mail, online, DMV, and church voter registration. It requires documentary proof of citizenship to register — documents half of Americans do not carry. It requires a photo ID photocopy submitted with every absentee ballot request and again with the ballot itself, a requirement Marc Elias called logistically impossible and designed to end mail voting rather than verify identity. It imposes criminal penalties on local election clerks who miss a documentation step. Implementation costs $510 million per election cycle with no federal funding attached. Twenty-one million eligible Americans lack easy access to the required documents. Women who changed their legal name after marriage must explain the mismatch between their ID and birth certificate or reregister entirely. Veterans with archived records and seniors whose documents predate modern systems hit the same wall. Trump said this bill guarantees Republicans never lose for fifty years. The republic does not need a bill that one party believes guarantees its permanent majority. It needs a bill that actually secures elections. Those are different things.

Americans deserve to have their voices heard, and that starts with safe and secure elections. Pass the Save America Act NOW.

Read why the SAVE Act constitutes its own kind of election fraud. This may be the most chilling sentence: “Implementation costs $510 million per election cycle with no federal funding attached.” In other words the law is meant to be unworkable, so millions cannot vote.

To even begin a process of democratic renewal a future US administration would have to break up media monopolies, pass campaign finance reform, dismantle DHS, eject Israel, prosecute corruption and war crimes, even before reforms like wealth taxes and universal health care. Who?

Assassinating heads of state has been taboo since at least the Treaty of Westphalia. There are a number of very practical reasons it's a very bad idea. For one, it makes it near impossible for states to negotiate. It also galvanizes public opinion (in places such as Iran) behind the regime. It's seen as an attack on the whole people.
Aaron Bastani@AaronBastani

The response to this is rather strange. Did anyone sensible seriously think that Israel and the US could assassinate a literal head of state, and that this wouldn’t normalise…political assassinations?

Only a handful of reporters had a Pentagon pass for as long as I did—30 years—until I had no ethical choice but to turn it in last year. Thank you, judge, for this ruling; and thank you, @nytimes, for bringing the suit.

🇯🇵🇺🇸 Huge protests in Japan. After Takaichi's disgraceful visit. After Trump humiliated her. In the Oval Office. The people are angry. The streets are full. The government is exposed. Takaichi flew 6,000 miles to be mocked about Pearl Harbor. She stayed for dinner. She signed the deals. Now Japan is rising. Not behind her. Against her. The protests are huge. The silence is broken. The shame is public. Trump insulted Japan. Takaichi smiled. The people will not forget.

This is something that always bothered me about Trump. I had voted for him and was therefore part of the faction he was trying to appease, but I found it pretty shocking & off putting that he literally only cared about the people who voted for him. No one really talks about this, but this is not normal and shouldn't be acceptable. He openly despises half the country he leads.
Gregg Nunziata@greggnunziata

Again, Trump's greatest failing is his inability to understand he leads a country, not just a faction
