We are the ones who have put ourselves in the position where we’re relying on things outside our control. Manchester City are sat watching VAR decisions in Arsenal games hoping they don’t get a favourable call. That’s on us more than anyone else. The reality is VAR has been a mess for years and the PGMOL doesn't give anyone confidence either. Every single week there’s another apology, another explanation, another inconsistency. Constantly focusing on that gets you nowhere because it’s not changing anytime soon. If City want to avoid all of this, the answer is simple... be better. Be so good that no dodgy decision, no weak VAR intervention, no questionable officiating can actually affect the outcome. The best Man City sides under Pep Guardiola have never left anything to chance. We buried teams. Controlled games. Made refereeing decisions irrelevant. That’s the level we have to get back to. Once you leave title races hanging by fine margins, you’re giving VAR and officials the chance to become part of the story.
