The amendments to the UK DCTS scheme offers Sri Lankan apparel manufacturers duty free access to the UK market.
Andrew Patrick@AndrewPtkFCDO

Minister @Chathurangaab joined me in touring Maersk Sri Lanka’s advanced logistics operations. They handle country consolidation operations for several UK brands. With exports expected to expand following latest DCTS reforms, the whole‑economy value chain stands to benefit.

“Am I supposed to park the vehicle on your head if I don’t park here? You’re speaking like an idiot,” MP Archchuna Ramanathan was caught on camera confronting Traffic Police in Colombo.

I came across a few foreign tourists today at the Horton Plains National Park entrance ticket counter who had come there on their own & were not aware that card payments or foreign currency were not accepted to purchase entry tickets. Also, the nearest ATM was 1 hour away.

@advocatalk That 2.8 is, I believe the total imports of fabric. This covers both the local requirement and what’s imported for reprocessing for export.

🚢 What keeps Sri Lanka’s economy ticking? Imports. In 2024, we brought in over USD 4.3 billion worth of fuel — our single largest import. Close behind were textiles (USD 2.8 bn) to power the apparel industry and machinery & equipment (USD 2.3 bn) to keep factories running. Everyday essentials also add up: wheat & maize, sugar, dairy, medicines. Together, they paint a picture of an economy still heavily reliant on what comes through our ports. Happy birthday WSO2 What a ride—20 years. I am incredibly proud to have played a part in this journey, working with perhaps the most brilliant leaders I’ve had the honor of working with. One visionary leader, @sanjiva and a brilliant, deep enterprise middleware tech cofounder, Paul fremantle I’ve built lifelong friendships during my time at @wso2 —building WSO2Mobile and the WSO2 APAC business. Today, even after 10+ years since leaving WSO2, I work closely with another brilliant mind— @SamisaA (driving Gov digital agenda) who was former VP Engineering. I have no doubt WSO2 will continue to grow and become a formidable leader, true open-source enterprise tech company in this era of AI. I can’t wait to see the billion-dollar+ valuation mark. As Sanjiva shared, WSO2 is building a forever company with a long-term view. Wishing the WSO2 leadership all the very best to take WSO2 to another level in the next 10 years. Thank you, Sanjiva & WSO2, for inviting me to the anniversary event. It’s such an honor to be part of this journey. #wso2 #enterpeisetech #opensource

@BuhardeenImtiaz Nothing will come down. Pre April we paid MFN only. From April it was MFN + 10% reciprocal. Now it will be MFN + 20% reciprocal

@rangaba @SL_PoliceMedia Happens all the time there. Irony that the driver’s probably there for exercise but can’t be a**ed walking 15m !

This car, registration CBW 8888, was seen parked illegally at Independence Square on Aug 1, 2025, blatantly ignoring the ‘No Parking’ signs. Despite a clearly marked parking area nearby, some drivers seem to think the rules don’t apply to them. @SL_PoliceMedia

@ShardhaSosa @YohanLawrence3 USA will give tax breaks to individuals so that over all disposable income will be more or less same. This is what I personally believe will happen

20% is great and we are in line with our competitors. What happens next? American consumers will pay the additional cost to their government and life goes on? I'm not in the apparel industry but for the sake of the country let's hope that is the case. @YohanLawrence3

@ShardhaSosa That’s a tough one. For sure (most) brands will look to pass it on to the manufacturers but there’s nothing left to give.
