A question for everyone: survey data suggests that by the end of the Covid-19 emergency trust in public health institutions had decreased significantly. If you are among the people who reacted that way, why specifically? I'm hoping for long, diverse, individualized answers.

@JMooreP3 @tedfrank @bdomenech @conor64 I doubt anyone who didn’t get vaccinated regrets their decision. Myocarditis cases have been proven as a side effect. People who got their children vaccinated/boosted were sheep.

Most of the skepticism about vaccinations and boosters was incorrect. PH was over-optimistic at first (or lying, not sure). Fauci's moving target was actually consistent with science - if the disease did not have asymptomatic transmission (which it did). Vaccines saved many, many lives. Boosters likewise, although less so because of built up immunity. They were safe - i.e. the rate of dangerous or fatal side effects was low - consistent with other vaccines. MAGA went nuts on mRNA - claiming it was gene therapy, or other silly stuff. And there were the claims that it was inadequately tested, which were wrong - good RCTs were done before they were released. The designation as experimental just shows the weakness of the FDA designation process, not the actual state of the vaccines. RFK, buying into anti-mRNA madness, killed off a bunch of mRNA vaccine research - research which might lead to a vaccine that could save me from my Agent Orange (Vietnam war) created cancer. I take that very personally . MAGA went nuts over ivermectin, which showed *in vitro* promise early on, but failed in good RCT's. Same with hydroxychloroquine, although PH was dumb on that too - claiming it was dangerous, when it was not very dangerous is regular theraputic doses (I've taken it for malaria prevention in the jungle). But PH was either stupid or dishonest about disease acquired immunity. So was MAGA. PH pretended that the immunity didn't exist. MAGA also went stupid on it. MAGA claimed it was the best way to fight the epidemic - even going so far as the remarkably wrong Great Barrington Declaration. So I have now addressed multiple issues, and both sides. Can you be specific with criticisms?

@Young_Press @tedfrank @bdomenech @conor64 You should know: I am MAGA, but I also have a science background, and I disagree with areas where MAGA is wrong. As for the left, they are wrong on way too many things to elucidate. BUT... most of the scientists doing good work on this topic are, unfortunately, woke.

Public health corrected as they learned about both the virus and the reaction of the public. What MAGA views (other than anti-mask-mandate) were scientific?

@Young_Press @tedfrank @bdomenech @conor64 Continuing. There is science and there is medicine/public health. People get them confused. In a new pandemic, there is no time to do science. All you have is experts who are most likely to know what to do. And, they'll often be wrong at first. Science is a slow march to truth.
