There are four pathways for TVK to come to power: a) TVK surprises all by sweeping the elections. b) TVK gets 50–60 seats, refuses to support AIADMK or DMK, and Vijay announces that TVK will form a minority government in the interest of Tamil Nadu, with outside support from the AIADMK–NDA. c) TVK gets 20–30 seats. The AIADMK–NDA falls a few seats short of a majority. TVK offers outside support, provided the government follows a common minimum programme. d) TVK gets 20–30 seats. The AIADMK–NDA falls a few seats short of a majority. TVK joins the coalition after a common minimum programme is agreed upon. TVK would prefer option A or B. Our view is that Scenario B is possible. Scenario A is believed by a few TVK diehards. We’ll have to wait and see.

That's a gap in civic education, and it's a real problem worth addressing. Not denying that. But here's what you chose not to say: These same "idiotic youngsters" you're writing off - stood in queues for hours to register as first-time voters. They ran grassroots awareness campaigns on Instagram and YouTube that no TV channel bothered to cover. They fact-checked manifesto promises in real time on X while your colleagues were reading press releases. They showed up to rallies not for free biryani, but because for the first time in a long time, they felt politically seen. If a youngster sitting INSIDE A MEDIA OFFICE doesn't know how votes convert to seats - whose failure is that exactly? The youth who weren't taught? Or the media that was too busy doing prime time theatre to do basic political literacy? Or the previous governments? Tamil Nadu's youth aren't ignorant. They're underserved - by the very institutions that were supposed to inform them. One last thing: Your job and mine are to teach them there, not to mock them.

We have had so many videos of youngsters saying the most idiotic things. Last week a youngster at a media office asked me about TVK chances. When I said it wasn't high in terms of votes to seat conversion he said, "so what if he does not get enough votes all he needs is to win seats." After a pause he asked me are votes and seats connected? Can't you get seats without votes? This is not a joke. Seriously there is need for political awareness programs for our youth. #TamilNaduAssemblyElections2026

Almost every Tamil journalist I spoke to today says TVK will take mostly AIADMK vote and much smaller number of DMK votes. Many of them are predicting 150-160+ for DMK alliance. Also almost all of them are giving Vijay at least 20% overall vote share. I am completely gobsmacked. I still maintain Vijay will largely be an urban phenomenon and I do not expect him to cross 15% max in rural areas, maybe even dropping to 10% or lower in some seats. I believe there is serious overestimation being done of TVK's vote share. Maybe this post won't age well or maybe it will. Let us see on 4th May. #TNAssemblyElections
