The Napa Boys made me laugh a lot. Definitely not for everyone.
But I will say the Napa boys presents stamped on the opening credits like one of the American Pie dtv sequels might’ve made me laugh the hardest.

One of the many things I love OBSESSION is how so many of the scares pull from Japanese horror where it’s about unsettling you with her subtle inhumanities. The walk she does in the bedroom is one of the most horrifying (and impressive) sequences because it’s so simple.

inde navrarette’s vocal work and physicality in obsession was truly remarkable, the way she was able to move her body is seriously some of the most uncanny shit i have ever seen, i hope she sticks with the horror genre, this is a star in the making…

@_TheSmartAlec1 And I bring up Hansel/Gretel because clearly her wires get crossed after the curse. She says she has a dead cat, she repeats what he says, she says she ate a bug then says she has a stomach bug. So I think the Sibling/Romantic aspect is that to its extreme.

@_TheSmartAlec1 She drops her necklace down the drain, she gives him the Tiger's Eye that her Mom gave her, but later he says she would hate the "sunshine in a rock". I'm not sure. If he had gotten her that, instead of OWW, all of this could have been avoided. But he DIDN'T know her.

I saw someone say that Curry Barker ruined his own movie with this because it gives incels hope or whatever when that is an insanely flat and hollow reading of what the movie is saying. If you think Nikki liking Bear back would frame him as justified, that’s on you.

@MRST3ACH This is a reach but: Bear's name is Baron and he lives in the house his grandma left him. Just like Nikki's Mom passed down to her that Tiger's Eye. Idk just mulling over how Boomers and GenX had their time and left us with empty platitudes about how to navigate life.

Any movie worth its salt is 'for you.' One of the biggest jobs of the director is to make the movie compelling and if they didn't then they failed. No need to be dishonest

As a white critic - i.e. someone both inside and outside this issue - this is a place I notice misogynoir a lot. Black women will make great work and be met as if they have made something neat but minor. They will make good work and be treated as mediocre/anonymous artisans
