@DGisSERIOUS In any case, just so everyone can see how ridiculous they sound, in theory, Spain should take back parts of Morocco as it used to belong to Hispania Tingitana since Roman times

@ndakmcopa @Nassreddin2002 @unpococansad0_ I wasn’t talking about it being disgrace or not , I only mentioned that most of Spanish population have very little to do with Andalusian ancestry

Ceuta and Melilla are part of Spain. They’ve been for centuries. And its populations want it to remain so. But this is an ahistorical statement Before Spain and Portugal conquered Melilla and Ceuta, the Marinid dynasty — capital in Fès — ruled over them. One of the many dynasties that constituted Morocco I don’t understand why you don’t consider previous Moroccan dynasties as “Morocco” but you do consider a previous Spanish dynasty as Spain. But to say that “Morocco didn’t exist before 1956” is historically wrong. The same dynasty that rules Morocco now, ruled Morocco during the French Protectorate, and has been in power since the 1600s.

How many times are we going to tell you Ceuta and Melila have been part of Spain longer before Morocco existed?

@ZNT22_ @Nassreddin2002 @unpococansad0_ Of those who stayed muslim (or were forcefully converted), a majority were (disgracefully) deported/left, but Morocco wasn't the only region they went to, they also arrived at Oran, Algiers, Tunisia and Istambul

@ndakmcopa @Nassreddin2002 @unpococansad0_ Most of them were sent off to Morocco or killed by huge numbers according to history books + their genetics almost dissapeared compared to German / French settlers

@ZNT22_ @Nassreddin2002 @unpococansad0_ Nope? First of all, during the Christian conquests, many muslims stayed and converted (sometimes voluntarily and sometimes forcibly, reverse of the Al-Andalus period), so that'd be most of them

@Nassreddin2002 If Morocco traces its roots back to the Idrisid dynasty (8th century), then Spain's historical roots go back to Roman Hispania (and Phoenician Spn). Double standards won't change the facts: Ceuta & Melilla were Spanish long before Morocco ever existed.

@02Ssf @Nassreddin2002 By definition, they are in Spanish land, bordering with Morocco. They are not on Moroccan land, they share a land border with it. It is that simple.

@Nassreddin2002 International law operates on claims by modern states not including premodern dynasties is because it would open a Pandora’s box of territorial claims that would be unresolvable. Does China get to claim northern Korea because of Tang? Korea parts of China because of Goryeo?

@Nassreddin2002 @unpococansad0_ Not uncommon in Spain nowadays to claim the muslim kindgoms as Spanish. Racists won't do it, of course, but many people do. It's part of our history and, despite the barbaric expulsion of a lot of people, many of those rulers and inhabitants are our ancestors, too.

@Nassreddin2002 @unpococansad0_ Why shouldn't we? Most of Al-Andalus population were natives that converted into islam and then to Christianity. And we (most of us I'd say, not 100% sure) condemn all the acts of ethnic cleansing of the Iberian kingdoms against Muslims and Jews

@Nassreddin2002 Not to mention both modern cities were only conquered in 1860 . Melila for example was just the the small fortified citadel, now known as Melilla la Vieja Rest was actually Moroccan.

Spain has owned Meilla since 1497 and Ceuta since 1580. Morocco has been in existence since 1956 and they have no claim to either. They can go pack sand.
