@yamanakanobody I don't think piracy would stop, especially with the culture here, but it would definitely go way down. Even among those that continued, many would buy stuff, even if they have watched or read it already, if they like it. Especially if it's priced fairly.

@worldwide_yuya My personal experience as well as my experience with those around me is that most people are in situations where overtime is expected or required in order to survive. My degrees and over a decade of experience have only slightly helped, but I still work 50+ hours a week.

It’s hard to properly convey everything that runs through my brain when I see something like this. Here’s the bullet points: - It’s not surprising - It was yet another live service shooter - It went out similar to Concord - Concord was $40, this was free - Another case of “from the developers of *insert popular game* comes a new studio and IP - It didn’t have a wildly unique art/character appeal - It was the “one last thing” moment at The Game Awards - It was not a bad game - Many were not only disinterested, but actively rooted for its failure for entertainment It would be easy to come to the conclusion that “no one wants this live service slop, so quit trying” but that isn’t true. - It’s not slop, it’s a well crafted game by a talented team - Many do want live service (Fortnite, Arc Raiders, Apex: Legends, Overwatch, Marvel Rivals) - It’s potentially far more profitable than any AAA single player game could ever be So what is the take away? Highguard was a familiar looking live service title that people assumed would fail right away. It had a bad spot at The Game Awards, people clowned on it and despite being a quality game, “good” is not enough anymore. Yet, live service games (even familiar ones like Arc and Marathon being Tarkov or Marvel Rivals being Overwatch) still have the potential and the appeal to really go places. The only thing I can say is, we’re nowhere near the end of seeing more games like this, it’s too profitable to not try, but it’s also the killing blow if every star doesn’t align. It just makes me sad. I’m a single player only gamer, so none of this appeals to me, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist. There’s plenty for me to play and seeing failure brings me no joy.

@horrorvisuals I don't think the arrival alien is humanoid at all. I think humans anthropomorphise things and have strong pattern recognition. For an alien to be truly incomprehensible to us we'd need it to be created by something not human. Just my two cents.

Every once in a while I'm fascinated with the fact that no matter how much we try, we seem to be incapable of designing truly alien beings. In most media they carry either typical Lovecraftian qualities, animal like features, or they're humanoid shaped.

@GermanStrands 81 is a good score. I felt it was awesome for a first attempt at a console game, but I can't say it deserves many more points. There's really no shame in an 81 though.

@ProfNoctis I absolutely agree. Just because one thing is great doesn't mean others aren't.. That being said.. I love the FFX combat, but if it got a modern remake, I wouldn't mind something close to E33.

Absolutely not. The FF7R battle system is so unique and engaging, I honestly think it’s the best out there. E33’s is great and innovating, too. But FF7R’s is so dynamic and thrilling, I would never want to trade that for a simpler system. I’m fine having both exist.
