@ZacRandall @BackstraightB Haha not at all - it’s good chat. My base point is that if you run as fast as you can, you may not win, but you can’t say you lost because you didn’t give it your all. Winning is not always a realistic goal. Running. Your fastest is.

Watch the men’s 800m from US trials, and then explain to me again why middle-distance runners spend years training to run fast then go out and deliberately race slow. Will never make sense.

@lambsenglish @BackstraightB Assuming that you running 1.46 has *no* effect on what everyone else does, that’s true. That’s not usually the case though. In events where people necessarily influence each other & where people have different strengths, your fastest race doesn’t always = max chance of winning
