@Chaddadbod until we see an olympic gold weightlifter, tour de france winner, world record marathon record, etc. accomplished by an athlete on keto/carnivore, the evidence is on my side.

@ZackStrength Such a shame, The world’s top athletes could have been even better on keto/carnivore.

me: none of the world’s top athletes are carnivore or keto. their performance benefits from carbs. keto/carnivore zealot: what about johann kugelschreiber?! he’s a world record holder! (holds the world record for consecutive pogo stick hops for scorpios over 60 years old.) while johann’s record is impressive, and his diet is obviously working for him, this is not comparable to the world’s top athletes.

@AndreaHardie @SBakerMD @Erling i do believe the items you mention assist with performance. but i am saying that so do the carbs he consumes such as rice, bread, and pasta. no matter how one may define carnivore, the point i am making is that the world's top athletes benefit from their carb consumption.

Well these comments didn’t age well… Almost a decade later, 44 years old and still not in a wheelchair like they said I’d be 🤷🏼‍♂️ The human body is resilient, especially when you understand evidence based pain management and injury recovery Look forward to these folks giving me more motivation for the next decade

we're going in circles. i stated fat gain happens in a caloric surplus, which is more cals in than out. your description of rejecting/passing cream is an example of calories out. definition of "excess" is irrelevant, you can say fat is in "excess" on an 800 calorie diet of all fat where one is in a caloric deficit. more in than out = gain, more out than in (like what you described) = loss.

i just encountered a very fatty ribeye, so i had to acquire it. i wish i could eat an unlimited quantity of ribeye like this and not gain fat, but i know that’s not possible as i would be in a caloric surplus.

big shawn! appreciate the discourse and all your work, proving that incredible performances can be achieved on a carnivore diet or diet low in carbs. the world needs more pioneers like you who can show what can be achieved. however, my counter is that although these athletes have all performed incredibly well, none have won a title over the world's actual best, who have all utilized carbs for performance benefits. in sorenson's case of playing a team sport, this "best" season in which he won a super bowl occurred because the man in front of him on the depth chart became injured, and sorenson was his replacement, hence becoming a member of the starting lineup (and making his way to the nfl on a diet utilizing carbs). i am by no means discrediting these athletes and their amazing feats. rather, my position is that it is incorrect to say carbs don't benefit athletic performance at the most elite levels. every olympic weightlifting gold, every tour de france win, every world record marathon, etc. have all been achieved by someone utilizing carbs for their benefits. and i think we need to build on this discussion over a meal of steak and eggs. 🥩🍳💪🏻 Show less

@ZackStrength My experiment only needs one 12 oz dose of heavy cream. You will pass most of it the next morning. Your body rejecting it. Without weight gain. Because it's too much.

@1Ronin_Jedi until someone who wins an olympic gold in weightlifting, tour de france, sets a marathon world record, etc. on an approach that doesn’t utilize carbs, a claim that carbs are unnecessary for performance doesn’t hold.

@ZackStrength While high carb diets are the default position of high performaning athletes, that doesn't demonstrate that they couldn't equally be served just as well by high fat diets. I don't think this is a foregone conclusion yet.

@1Ronin_Jedi both can be great energy sources. i personally prefer a low carb approach due to my needs, but i also acknowledge the importance carbs can serve. every significant top athletic performance has been won with the utilization of carbs.

@ZackStrength At the end of the day we're just talking about energy inputs. Carbs are one such input, but fats are another. Both can be used as energy. Just because carbs are predominantly used doesn't mean it's the only way or that it's more effective.

CICO denial is midwit CICO deniers typically put up a strawman, then show any example that actually confirms CICO When calories absorbed vs calories burned are accurately measured it will aways balance. Metabolic flux doesn't dispel CICO, it confirms it. CICO is also the most useful way to track and make adjustments pragmatically

@ZackStrength I did carnivore because I had no self control when it came to carbs. I am sad to report that no combination of fat and electrolytes ever produced magical results.

My favorite kind of carnivore is the kind that acts like they are super tough, but that a spinach leaf will hospitalize them as they will be overpowered by the oxalates.
