A chapter closes on the South Western tonight. The SETG have filtered out over the last few days to say thank you and farewell to the #SWR #Class455 fleet. Almost all of us have worked on them at one time or another as fitter, guard or driver. We’re sad to see the end of them.

@mickytaylor84 @JRailVolunteer I get that, but you’d surely think the implications, such as disruption and safety risks would matter?

We have lost all power on the 455.

@superalbs Was lucky to photograph it at Warszawa Zachodnia last month. Sadly I think a lot of the heritage locos will start to get phased out now. EP07-356 hasn’t got many miles left.

Sad to hear about EU07-052 suffering a major crack, unfortunately that could be the end for this 57 year old locomotive. Here are a few pictures of the mighty machine in better times. 🙏

Well 2026 is not off to an ideal start, this happened at 0020 this morning, luckily I’ve avoided a cast but I have to wear a support boot until mid February at least.😔

@LudwigTails @Champs707007 @MattJennings337 Ehh sort of. At the moment there aren’t really any more 701s available than there are needed for the diagrams, so if one fails then a 455 could step in. It happened today as well - 5727 + 5871 came in at short notice for a 701.
