When people point to the number of people in overpoliced communities who call 911 as evidence that people in overpoliced communities want policing, I think: Would people still call 911 if they had or knew they had another safer option that actually prevents crime & heals trauma?

In NY, Dem lawmakers & Governor are gunning to kill bail reform. Based on police lies tying bail reform to crime. Not facts. And they know this. So: 1000s more Black & Brown people may be jailed pretrial solely bc of police lies. And so police will keep lying to influence policy.

I’m sounding the alarm. For years police have been brazenly lying. Manufacturing damaging falsehoods tying NY bail reform to crime. They’ve been caught in these lies multiple times. Admitted they lied. Yet now Democratic lawmakers on brink of killing bail reform based on them.
