Inidgeneity is a concept that only makes sense in the Americas, Australia, and NZ. This "indigenous" claim (which Jeffrey Goldberg loves too) is meant for Americans and an example of the cultural power of the US reorganizing and sorting the world according to its history.

Financed at 5%, 100 billion means 5 billion/yr in interest alone. All of Amtrak brings in total revenue 2.5 billion, so they have to double Amtrak's revenue, THEN achieve 100% margins just to float it.

@mattyglesias Your best policy ideas (YIMBY, deregulation, licensing reform) succeed by constraining technocratic discretion, not expanding it. The knowledge problem doesn't disappear with better-credentialed technocrats. It's structural.

I'm calling it, what we need is a revival of technocratic good government and workable ideas.
But it will probably be led by "outsiders" because the insiders themselves are all brain-poised by populism at this point.

@RealMNchiefsfan @ninja_padrino Also in Tokyo - some of tourist spots are great (Meiji shrine, Shibuya, the Roppongi Hills Mall & view deck), while others I wasn’t as impressed with (& with kids have to be a BIT cautious in some spots like Akihabara). The Imperial Palace is limited, but nice
