Through inaction and false equivalency that CC has an equal. My point of reference is the NBA and how they promoted bird/magic - MJ - Curry with success. Logic would dictate that someone with the largest gatedraw and never before seen playmaking ability would get this same treatment and promotion. But they are not operating to create profit and the commissioner wore a dress of one of the teams in the finals of the product she in charge of managing.

If Caitlin Clark were a gay black woman, the WNBA would promote her all the time. But she’s straight and white & that drives the league crazy. She’s the WNBA’s Jordan, Kobe or LeBron, the league should market her like crazy! Insanity they don’t.

Mallard Creek boys track and field was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct after winning the 4x400 relay in the final event of the day. Had the result stayed, the Mavericks would have won the team state championship. Instead, they remained in second place. Alors pardon. Et au travail.

I don't post a lot, mainly II repost because others usually say it better. But, my Great Grandfather settled in Oklahoma, and we have been here ever since. I was born in New Mexico, but am of proud Okie stock. I am proud to consider myself a native of the "reddest of the red", 77 counties for Trump and freedom. But, as I get older, and hopefully wiser, and thanks to my friends from Oklahoma on X, I get more informed, I am afraid that our great state may be Republican, but our representatives and Senators are not MAGA and certainly not America first. Bice, Cole, Lankford, Lucas and the others consistently vote deep state and deep party. How do we get the word out to all the great patriots in this state about who to vote for? How do we make sure they know who is MAGA and who is not? I am so tired of seeing Lankford gaze adoringly at Thune during Thune's press releases. It nauseates me, and I want to be proud of who represents me.

@Devon_Eriksen_ @kenzietuff This is the weakness of an inherited paradise that lacks the gumption to confront the behavior that destroys it. Someone has to be on the wall, and that doesn’t indicate lesser morality or enlightenment. The opposite actually.

The Mailbox Test, like the breakfast test, is an excellent way to tell who you can allow to wield power in your society. Goes like this: If someone is hurt trying to destroy someone else's stuff in order to take pleasure from their pain, do you sympathize with... The aggressor because he got hurt? Or with the guy who owns the stuff, because he wasn't the aggressor? You can have people in your society who fail the Mailbox Test. That's okay... they can work at hospices, or shelters for orphaned kittens, or something. But you cannot allow them to vote, or otherwise wield political power. Because if you do, they will open the gates of the city to the enemy. I am personally tired of everyone pretending that people who enjoy ruining things for random strangers are just kewt smol beans who are only aggressive because of all the complex socioeconomic factors and lack of resources. They knew someone would be hurt by what they did. They knew that someone had done literally nothing harmful to them. And those two ideas, in combination made them feel pleasure. And they went and did it. That is the sign of a rotten soul. Defending ourselves and our property is not just a right, it's a moral obligation. Otherwise, we just kick the can down the road for someone else to deal with, someone who may not be able to defend herself. I don't care if a vandal breaks his arms trying to destroy my stuff. Because I value my stuff more than a vandal's arms. And the fact that he tried to destroy somebody else's stuff shows that he, too, values his arms less than the opportunity to hurt somebody. We cannot allow such people inside the city, and we cannot give the keys to those who would open the gates for them.

This post is an excellent litmus test for understanding of just war theory. Despite the fact that I can see how effective this would be, I must oppose it because the damage it would do to my enemy (who bashes in my mailbox) would far outweigh the good of saving my mailbox. Its disproportionality is opposed by our duty in charity (and even justice) to watch out even for the good of our enemies. (Yes, by the way, I have had my mailbox bashed in by random vandals.)

Proportionality is a moral measure, not a physical (as in pertaining to literal physics) measure. That hitting a mailbox with X amount of force results in an equal-but-opposite reaction is not the kind of proportionality either just war theory or I were discussing. The two things to compare are the harm of my damaged mailbox and the harm of shattered arm bones and permanent disability. While I will — and did, in the thread — absolutely defend visible fortification of the mailbox (e.g., a solid brick or even visibly concrete mailbox), the stealthy nature of hiding concrete reinforcement within the mailbox so as to catch the vandal by surprise indicates a particular malice. The intention here is not to prevent the smashing of the mailbox, but to visit retribution on one who would do such a thing as to smash my mailbox, that retribution being so far out of proportion to the crime. Put it another way: suppose that, in place of the concrete, I placed a mechanism that shot the vandal dead. Would that be acceptable? Or suppose, as a friend suggested, that we changed the law so that vandals who smash in mailboxes get their arm bones shattered by law. Would we find that to be a just punishment? If you would be appalled at the state's doing this, then you should be even more appalled at the vigilante doing it — the state does it with authority and with the forewarning of statutes while the vigilante does it with no authority and no forewarning. If, on the other hand, you would not be appalled by the state's doing this, then I'm not sure there can be any common ground between us for this discussion to bear fruit, but I wish you luck with the state you would be supporting.

Amazon just got caught running a secret price manipulation operation with Levi's, Home Depot, Walmart, and many more. Every time you "comparison shopped" online, you were looking at prices that were already rigged. Here's what happened: Amazon would monitor prices on Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Home Depot, and Chewy in real time. The second a competitor listed a product cheaper than Amazon, they'd contact the brand directly and tell them to "fix it." And the exact emails are now PUBLIC. Amazon sent Levi's links to two Walmart listings with the subject line "styles of concern." They basically said the prices on Walmart are too low and we have a problem. The next day, Levi's responded: "I talked to Walmart and they have partnered with us to take Easy Khaki Classic fit back up to ladder SPP price, $29.99 immediately." Levi's literally called Walmart and told them to raise the price. Because Amazon told Levi's to make the call. Walmart complied. Then Amazon matched the HIGHER price. Both retailers ended up charging more. The customer paid extra. Nobody competed. Same playbook with Hanes: Amazon sent them links showing Target and Walmart prices were lower. Hanes confirmed they "reached out to Target and Walmart to have the prices increased." Target increased the prices. Walmart increased the prices. Amazon kept their margins. But it gets even worse... Amazon told Allergan (the company that makes eye drops) that their product was "suppressed" on Amazon because it was cheaper on another site. Allergan responded: "Walmart got their price back up to $16.99." Amazon then unsuppressed the listing. They did this with pet treats on Chewy. Furniture on Home Depot. Products across dozens of categories spanning YEARS. The mechanism is simple but terrifying: If you're a brand and you sell cheaper on Walmart than on Amazon, Amazon suppresses your product, removes you from the Buy Box, buries you in search results, and effectively makes you invisible to 300 million customers. Brands can't afford that. So they call Walmart and Target and say "raise your prices or we'll lose our Amazon listings." Walmart and Target comply because they need the brand's products. Amazon captures 40 cents of every dollar spent online in America. That gives them the leverage to set prices across THE ENTIRE internet. Not just their own platform. So turns out, you were never comparison shopping. You were looking at a coordinated price floor set by Amazon through backroom phone calls between brands and their competitors. "Amazon is working to make your life more unaffordable." 3 separate antitrust trials are now scheduled for 2027. The FTC has its own case. 18 states plus the DOJ are piling on. This is literally happening during the WORST affordability crisis in a generation. Groceries up 25% since 2020. Housing unaffordable. Wages flat. And the largest ecommerce company on Earth has been secretly coordinating with brands to make sure you can't find a cheaper price ANYWHERE. "Competition" in retail is just a fantasy.

Joe Rogan and Francis Foster were talking about mass surveillance and it got uncomfortably real. Rogan recalled arguing with a friend after the Snowden leaks. The friend said, “I’ve got nothing to hide — they can look at my stuff.” Rogan’s reply: “Who are these perfect people watching everything? You don’t think any of them have financial or power incentives to silence voices or manipulate people?” Foster added the bigger danger: even if today’s government is honorable, what about the next one? Once they have access to every email, call, and message, it’s easy to dig up something from 14 years ago and use it against you. Rogan pointed out how quickly power corrupts — referencing the Patriot Act, NDAA indefinite detention, and how the Founding Fathers built checks and balances precisely because they understood human nature and tyranny. It’s a sobering reminder that “nothing to hide” stops being a defense the moment someone in power decides they don’t like what you’re saying.
