Neill’s success was recognised. He was awarded honorary degrees from the universities of Newcastle, Exeter and Essex. He was also recognised amongst the top 12 men and women who have influenced British schooling during the last millennium by the Times Educational Supplement.

Summerhill was founded in 1921 by A.S. Neill, a Scottish, writer and rebel. He created a community in which children could be free from adult authority. The school and his ideas became world famous through Neill's writings and lectures, his books are still published worldwide.

@ColinYoungActor @TheLastLeg Not sure where to write you a note so am doing it here. I have been watching Call the Midwife reruns. I think you are a wonderful and sensitive actor. I just loved your character and his personality was depicted brilliantly. Pity there were not more episodes for you. X

@rcbregman The reality is that our Summerhill children would have called a school meeting and voted in a few committees to get food and, etc. Feel free to contact me - summerhillschool.co.uk I am sure you will be interested.

Wow. Really overwhelmed with the response to my story about the real 'Lord of the Flies'. So so happy that this extraordinary tale is finally - after 50 years! - becoming famous. Here's a thread (with pictures!) on how I found the 'boys' three years ago /1 theguardian.com/books/2020/may…

@rcbregman Hello Rutger. I hope you read this. It is important to your work I think. Have you ever heard of A.S.Neill's Summerhill School? About to celebrate one hundred years of children living free-range in a self governing community. Critics always likened it to Lord of the Flies but ...

Question: when confronted by a labour MP saying he had a death threat last night, Dominic Cummings replied: “Get Brexit done” Does this mean that the only way to stop being bullied is to be compliant?

Brexit or no bloody Brexit, bullying is high on my agenda and this sort of statement from a government advisor is alarming to say the least. No wonder bullying is one of the great scourges of our time among both children and adults

One would hope that those in power would at least uphold right, and right means that it is NEVER alright to bully or intimidate anybody!

@CharRiccaSmith Well done you Charlotte. Absolutely agree about going topless being liberating and powerful. I grew up in a famous 'Free School' where nudity was notorious (in the media) but we girls were empowered and every one of us turned out strong and assertive. Go girls- get off that kit!

My letter to ⁦@Nigel_Farage#NotInMyName In my opinion, the most shocking part of the whole incident is that it was a youth orchestra full of young talent who had to endure such obnoxious and embarrassing behaviour...he really is turning his back on the youth
