@City_Xtra Khaldoon didn’t just back Pep with money 💰 he backed him with belief when it mattered most. After Lyon. After Chelsea. After Madrid. Most clubs panic after heartbreak… City doubled down. That’s why this era became historic. Trust built the dynasty.

Source: “Pep came to City because of Txiki [Begiristain] and Ferran [Soriano], but stayed because of Khaldoon [Al-Mubarak]." Some staff are convinced Guardiola would have resigned in August 2020 had Al-Mubarak not given him a pep talk in the dressing room after the Champions League quarter-final defeat vs Lyon. “Pep, we need to carry on… we’re gonna do this,” he told Guardiola. After the game [#UCL Final vs Chelsea, 2021], Al-Mubarak was at the team hotel telling Guardiola and Kevin De Bruyne that their year would come, and did the same in the aftermath of the semi-final vs Real Madrid at the Bernabéu the following year. @ZonColossa @aezimci @DeBrxyne17 @DanisMCFC @SkySportsNews @mani434raju Giving an untalented player access to world class facilities doesnt make them world class, nor does splashing money make a manager a world beater, look at PSG pre-2024, Atletico, Spurs, United, Chels, Slot Liv. Ultimately real grit is necessary to be dominant the way Pep was.

"Go and get Luis Enrique, Enzo Maresca is not a world-class manager" Jamie O'Hara is not "convinced" Maresca is the right choice to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City 🔵

@Pitcherkin @funny_kante I could start linking SAF to a ton of managers who have praised him as influence but it’s a load of tosh. They’re individuals with their own stuff. It’s like saying Pep cant take credit for his style of play because it came from Cruyff. SAF is no fraud either, he built United.

@ZonColossa @funny_kante How their teams play is irrelevant. What is important is that they learnt under his wings and are excelling. Maresca will be his direct replacement. Tell us who the Scottish fraud transferred his skills in 26 years of management and are relevant today. Carlos Queiroz? Lol

When Sky Sports put together a montage marking Pep Guardiola's 1000th game earlier this season, Jurgen Klopp did not need asking twice to take part. So keen to be involved, Roy Hodgson (78) learnt how to record on his phone specifically for the occasion. Off camera, Guardiola turned to Sky's crew: ‘You didn’t ask Jose, then?’ They had, and Mourinho had said no. I don't think even Pep could have repeated this last ten years of football. He normalised the absurd. Broke basically every record. Rewired English football. He changed everything. Another ten years would have brought success, but 100 points? A treble? Four in a row? Nah, surely not. It's been a phenomenal decade and he's smart enough to know that it'll never get better, so I don't blame him at all for leaving now.

All Pep’s done to become arguably the greatest manager in Premier League history and we have Fabrizio Romano announcing his successor before City have even put out any kind of statement. He deserved to announce it on his own terms like Klopp. Stuff like this ruins the sport.

🚨🔵 BREAKING: Enzo Maresca has a total verbal agreement with Manchester City, HERE WE GO! The Italian manager has always been considered the ideal candidate to replace Pep Guardiola. Deal in place and Maresca will sign an initial three year deal at #MCFC. 🇮🇹 New era, soon.

Pep Guardiola is “furious” at the timing of news around his #ManCity exit, whilst the players are “in a state of shock” having been told as recently as Saturday that he would be staying. Source: “Pep is furious at the timing just before a game. He summoned the players to join a late night group call and confirmed he was leaving. He apologised for the way the news emerged. It took him by surprise. The players were told as recently as Saturday he wasn’t going so everyone is in a state of shock…” [via @SunSport]

The Real Reason Pep Guardiola is Leaving Manchester City The English FA is determined to stop the Premier League from turning into another farmers' league like Ligue 1 (PSG) or the Bundesliga (Bayern Munich). They know that if one club dominates for too long, global viewership will eventually drop. So they've allegedly stepped in to ensure the Premier League title rotates among the so-called Big Six clubs. This season, they "gifted" it to Arsenal to break City's grip. Next season, expect either Chelsea or Manchester United to lift the trophy. In the coming years, the title will keep cycling between Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United. The era of any team winning the Premier League two or three times in a row is officially over. Unpredictability = higher global TV audiences and drama. Unlike Ligue 1 and Bundesliga, where we already know the champion before the first match of the season kicks off. Pep saw the writing on the wall. He wanted to build a dynasty that would turn the EPL into a one-team league, but the English FA said NO. That's why he's walking away.
Fabrizio Romano@FabrizioRomano

🚨 Pep Guardiola, expected to leave Man City THIS summer with Enzo Maresca always been as the ONLY replacement wanted. Pep ready to say goodbye in the next days, while Maresca said yes to Manchester City months ago.
