Daniel got important clarifications from NVIDIA. TLDR: the "DLSS5 skeptical" were right about *everything*. 1⃣ It's a 2D AI Filter. Input is only color buffer & motion vectors. The model doesn't see geometry, lights, PBR properties, normals, anything🧵 youtu.be/D0EM1vKt36s

@diosHD_ @IdleSloth84_ You can make arguments about highest detail, definition or even quality (since it's subjective), but fidelity is literally defined as faithfulness/exactness. DLSS5 modified the textures/materials so it's by definition not "highest fidelity"

iOS developers: How long is App Review taking for everyone these days? It is now taking longer to get our app approved than it is to build the actual features.

@SatanicLera Could very well be part of the future plan, yeah. But for now we're still not that close to that, the underlying materials models etc still have to be good for the neural rendering to be consistent and dwtwrministic

Why does this feel like a scheme to fire a lot of artists…….. No need to develop graphics and art direction anymore, just make basic low poly assets and let AI filter do the rest…….

@jaggerode @GloriousEggroll Hold up, idk what I was on when I formulates that first sentence. I meant I AM against removing exe support. People should always be allowed to install programs from wherever they want onto their machines.

@jaggerode @GloriousEggroll No no, even on the Windows side I'm not against *removing* .exe support. Users should always have this choice (like with .APK on Android for example). However, this should not be the DEFAULT method of installing software

Uhm. This is gonna sound wild but I think -every- 3rd party app developer should take a hint from how Nvidia handles distribution of Geforce Now. 1/2

@GloriousEggroll @ANX_Suffy I'm not arguing there isn't points to improve, I don't wanna turn into one of those people that champion "our way is the only way!". But I firmly believe any solution that requires the user to find the "official" download is a huge regression.

@ANX_Suffy @ZyphenVT hardware enablement and acceleration are 100% well-verbalized growing pains of flatpak that definitely need a better solution

@GloriousEggroll @ANX_Suffy That true. The MS Store is horrible, which is why Windows is stuck with .exes for the time being. But that's still a huge failure, and we should not push for it to be the norm just because we're used to it.

@ZyphenVT @ANX_Suffy their problem is they have buried the apps in the store in 500 layers of DRM so they cannot be used outside of it, which basically turns the store into a graveyard for old software

@GloriousEggroll @ANX_Suffy I agree, but this is one of those cases where what we're used to doesn't matter. We have to push for "better" ways. Even Microsoft is pushing hard for users to not use .exes and instead use the Microsoft Store, their only problem is its slow af and nobody publishes on there.

@ZyphenVT @ANX_Suffy phones and pcs are different environments with similar crossover. i get it, but there is a valid difference there in what we are "used to" on pc vs "used to" on phone, and many people simply dont make the connection between the two

@ZyphenVT @GloriousEggroll People have been doing the same on Windows for eternity. Is it ideal? No. But it is easy to do and understand and it's something people are used to. People who are dumb enough to go to "freegpudriverswebsite.trojan" and start downloading things are not going to be saved by trust

@GloriousEggroll You'd be surprised. A decently big vector of attack is just using Google Ads for example to make your fake website come up first when people search for battle.net for example.

@ZyphenVT well obviously dont download random .bin files from the internet. a user downloading battle.net isnt going to just download it from some random ass site. same with nvidia applications.
