Almost six years ago to the day, I founded @/TheDemHypeHouse on TikTok. At the time, to the broader public and political and news ecosystem, TikTok was known mostly as an unserious trending dance app. However, under the surface, political content was growing at a rapid pace. @/TheRepublicanHypeHouse and @/TheConservativeHypeHouse were exploding in popularity -- with each garnering hundreds of thousands of followers by early 2020. They, and other right-wing creators, were also rampant spreaders of misinformation, especially later around the 2020 election. Seeing this massive right-wing ecosystem be built before our eyes, I knew we had to do something about it. It's why I, and a bunch of late teen early twenty somethings started posting on TheDemHypeHouse. One, to counter to the influence of right-wing creators on the platform, but also because we knew how powerful TikTok was and would become -- even when our traditional political apparatus did not. And unfortunately, the Democratic Party, from the Biden campaign all the way down, truly did not want to touch TikTok with a 100 foot pole. But we (along with TikTokForBiden and a few other fantastic groups) filled that gap. We earned millions upon millions of impressions. We fought back against election conspiracy bullshit. We won in 2020. In the years to come, the growth of political content on TikTok would be exponential. From the Democratic Party joining the platform in 2022 (now with 5.4m followers), to literally thousands of elected officials and the two major candidates in the 2024 election. To say nothing of the thousands of additional political content creators who have cropped up over the years. All the while, as I went to law school and focused on my own platform, TheDemHypeHouse was mostly dormant. Until late last week. I'm very happy to say that @/TheDemHypeHouse is now @FactPostNews on TikTok, run by our incredible rapid response team at the DNC. FactPost has been quite possibly the most successful post-2024 DNC-led program. Having garnered billions of impressions on Twitter, Threads, and Instagram, FactPost is often driving daily narratives and messaging that shapes our political discourse and opinions. Our clipping program is second-to-none, with the latest in news and politics being sent directly to our socials and hundreds of content creators each day. And now, in addition to our wildly successful Dems TikTok, FactPost will be posting the latest daily clips and shaping political narratives on an app that millions upon millions of Americans use to get their news. I'm very, very proud of the work we did six years ago, and excited to see the legacy of DHH continue in the form of FactPost far into the future.
