I'm working on a new temple project. It should be a lot of fun when it's completed.

@Latterdaytruth Faith: do you choose to believe in God, and live your life accordingly? Testimony: has that faith paid off in the form of a true relationship with the living God?

In Temple Recommend interviews, the first question is: Do you have faith in and a testimony of God, the Eternal Father; His Son, Jesus Christ; and the Holy Ghost? What is the difference between having “faith in” and having a “testimony of” the Father, Son, an Holy Ghost?

@Latterdaytruth I’d say 10 great speakers is better for ME, but having everyone speak is better for the church. The act of writing a talk and then getting up in front of others to share it is one of God’s most powerful tools to build someone’s faith, courage, and testimony in my opinion

WOULD YOU RATHER Listen to the same 10 or so speakers at church over and over again at church who prepare diligently and prayerfully OR Listen to mainly people who don’t prepare diligently or prayerfully, with a few good ones occasionally.

@sarahsalviander I agree. While there are some good exceptions, the best Christian media is often not explicitly Christian. It’s as the saying goes: a Christian shoemaker glorifies God when they create beautiful, high quality shoes; not when they make average shoes and pin a cross to them

This may offend some of you, but I mostly dislike overtly Christian entertainment. I find most of it a betrayal of both art and witness. Instead, I'd love to see a return of movies like Project Hail Mary that are quietly, subtly Christian. So subtle that you sometimes don't even realize you're being witnessed to. As an atheist kid growing up in a secular country, the only theology I got was from Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings. Star Wars introduced me to a tangible sort of spirituality (oh, how my heart ached for it) while The Lord of the Rings subtly poured the very soul of Christianity into my heart so that when I finally encountered the gospels it already felt familiar to me. There is great value in this kind of entertainment. It's almost paradoxical, but putting storytelling and art first produces a far more powerful Christian witness than putting the messaging front and center. (This is why so most "woke" entertainment fails.) Check out my article below if you wanna read my review of Project Hail Mary and how it's a Christian movie. open.substack.com/pub/sarahsalvi…

@ITalkOfChrist On first watch, I wished Grace had gone home. The second time though, I realized Grace gave up the world (still saved it, just didn’t go back lol) and followed Rocky, the one who rose again after essentially sacrificing himself for Grace. Very cool

Wife, reading Matthew 24: "And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened--" Me: "Astrophage!" Wife: "Oh my gosh, are you still on about Christian themes in Project Hail Mary? Come on. It's Easter!" Me: "Rocky was willing to die to extend Grace. Grace was saved when the rock rolled away. Rocky and Grace spent time practically but dead. Why do we Christians have hope? Life is reason! Life is reason!"

@TimelessTrvlr The suncity! It’s one of the top ten fastest growing cities in the US, so affordability is a dying sentiment lol. It’s a beautiful town though, I have a lot of childhood memories there. It’s my wife’s hometown too!

@dustinharding These are excerpts from an article by Lance Weaver where he discusses similarities between the ≈0-300 AD archeological record in Mesoamerica with the post-Christ societies described in 4th Nephi. I like some of these ideas, and I could see them being true in the millennium.

How could daily life in the New Jerusalem actually differ from our lives today? We often talk about the spiritual shift, but what about the practicals? I’m curious how you envision: - Work & Vocation - Education & Travel - Entertainment & Leisure Drop your theories below. 👇

The Arby's in Knoxville deserves to be mentioned alongside the Colosseum and Acropolis. Looking at it you'd half expect Indiana Jones to emerge from the woods looking for some mythical religious relic. A testament to civilization conquering wilderness.

@jtlewis_arch @MoundLore My apologies. Feathers and cacao from Mesoamerica have been found in southwestern sites like Chaco Canyon, not the plains. Nonetheless, I’m curious as to whether there could have been political influence from Mesoamerica there or not. If so, how do archeologists determine that?

There is no evidence of feathers or cacao at Spiro. Shell was coming from the Gulf in southeastern United States. No Mesoamerican society had control of the Caddo Area. We see a direct link based on aDNA and continuation of cultural traditions that the people that became the Caddo during the Mississippian Period emerged from practices and people already in the area.

This is real and it matters more than people realize. Obsidian found at the Spiro Mounds has been chemically traced to volcanic sources in Mexico, showing long-distance exchange networks moving materials across thousands of miles centuries before European contact. North America was far more connected than textbooks ever suggested.

@MoundLore An obsidian scraper sourced from Hidalgo Mexico was found in the Craig Mounds at the Spiro Mounds in Oklahoma.
