Oxford University researchers have discovered the densest element yet known to science... The new element, Governmentium (symbol=Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called pillocks. Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from 4 days to 4 years to complete. Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2 to 6 years. It does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganisation in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganisation will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as a critical morass. When catalysed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium (symbol=Ad), an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium, since it has half as many pillocks but twice as many morons.

Old post I wrote on Chinese aesthetics vs. Japanese aesthetics: x.com/MsMelChen/stat…
Melissa Chen@MsMelChen

Traditional Chinese design is characterized by dramatic opulence and ornate detail, while traditional Japanese design tends to emphasize understated simplicity and minimalism. That’s why in China, you often see loud colors (bright red, gold) and garrish dragons which are highly symbolic, influenced by Confucianism and its imperial history. Ancient Chinese architecture from grand palaces to courtyards, is structured around the principle of bilateral symmetry to project a sense of balance, stability, hierarchy and order. For me the biggest contrast in the underlying philosophy between Chinese and Japanese art is the former’s emphasis on permanence and the latter’s, on transience. Chinese art often focuses on enduring symbols of the cosmos and historical scenes, reflecting a desire for permanence and a strong connection to dynastic legacy.  Japanese aesthetics is more subtle and muted, shaped by Zen Buddhism and Shintoism. It emphasizes harmony with nature, imperfection, and the appreciation of simple, fleeting beauty. The Year Zeroing of Chinese traditionalism during Mao made it a lot worse. It severed lao bai Jing’s connection to their past, and everything became a blank slate for a brand new sense of aesthetics to take root. On top of that, people were so poor and deprived under communism that now that they’re tasting prosperity unheard of even 20 years ago, they’ve succumbed to tacky nouveau riche sensibilities. That’s probably what you’re seeing now

I always thought the dynamic of Japanese autism and discipline in contrast with American schizophrenia and exuberance is such an interesting juxtaposition. Just imagine Japan's focus on ritualized excellence and the refusal to half-ass anything fused with American schizomaxxing with occasional retardation and manic bursts of invention. The world is your oyster

My father is 83 years old and has studied US stocks for almost 52 years. He summarized some simple rules for beginners: 1. Price falls 5% → Hold 2. Price falls 15% → Buy 10% 3. Price falls 25% → Buy 25% 4. Price rises 5% → Continue holding 5. Price rises 15% → Continue holding 6. Price rises 25% → Sell 10% 7. Price rises 35% → Sell 20% 8. Price rises 45% → Sell 30% 9. Price rises 60% → Sell 40% 10. Price rises 100% → Sell everything Discipline + patience = stable long-term growth. (Save this later).

@PurnL @BurnsideWasTosh That ship proverbially sailed for me a long time ago. I’ve always thought actions speak louder than words, and the mass of evidence based on what’s happening in our country is more insightful than the fake “it’s our strength” rubbish.

@therealmissjo @williamnhutton Another sense check is specifically for the last week of December and first week in January, when domestic demand is high for every year, for obvious reasons. Also, that the sun and wind doesn’t supply very much energy at these times, is sub optimum to say the least.

@williamnhutton Will, you really do need to establish a better relationship with the truth. I happen to follow the energy statistics and on March 25 the number was 72% from renewables. Abnormally high because of the wind that day. A week earlier it was a paltry 30%.

Ed Miliband gets relentless bile from the right for his ‘ideological’ commitment to clean, cheap renewable energy - just as Nye Bevan once did for creating the NHS. Yet on March 25 97.7 % of our electricity was from renewables. A revolution is unfolding. observer.co.uk/news/columnist…
